Help with English abbreviations

Good morning everyone,
my name is Kim and I’m brand new here :) I discovered crochet for myself 1 week ago and have been crocheting every day since then; so far everything is going great.

Now, however, I have an English book and I’m not really getting along with the abbreviations, and I really hope you can help me with them :*

Turn,we are continue the foot in the round 12 sts (sc in each of next 3 sts,2 sc side,5 sc front,2 sc side, 3 sc back)
12 stitches (single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 single crochet ???, 5 single crochet ???,

What could be meant by front, side, and back? For front and back I thought of the front stitch and back stitch, but then what is “side” supposed to mean?

I really hope you can help me with this and that I can then understand how the 12 stitches come about, since just going by the numbers I would get 15 sts.

Many thanks to you in advance :*

Best, Kim

Turn, we continue the foot in the round with 12 sts (sc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 sc on the side, 5 sc at the front, 2 sc on the side, 3 sc at the back)

Turn, from here continue working the foot in round 12: 3 sc, 2 sc on the side, 5 sc at the toe, 2 sc on the side, 3 sc at the heel.

That would be my logic. You’re probably starting the round at the back of the heel with the 3 sc. I don’t understand why there should only be 2 sc on the side, though ... hmm ... Could you roughly explain what your foot section looks like so far?

Oh, sorry. I just noticed that it actually says “in the round 12 sts.” Did you leave out any commas, punctuation, line breaks, or anything like that? It doesn’t really make sense to me right now :-/

Here’s how I see it:
Turn the work. From now on, work in rounds of 12 single crochets: 3 single crochets, 2 single crochets along the side, 5 single crochets at the front (into the toe), 2 single crochets along the side, 3 single crochets at the back (heel).
Then the foot section should be trapezoidal in cross-section, meaning wider at the front than at the heel.

Dear all, thank you so much :**...I guess I started the foot the wrong way, so it didn’t make any sense to me *embarrassing*

But with your help, I’ve finally figured it out :D
Thanks again :D
