Yeah, who actually likes that? Young girls, maybe? It’s definitely too garish for me. Maybe if it’s paired with a more subdued color, but even then… I can most easily picture it on kids’ clothes: hats, for example, so you’re easy to spot in the winter.
I’ll admit it—I just love neon green as an eye-catcher. Recently at the Winter Olympics, many athletes were wearing neon green outfits; they really stood out against the white snow. And kids love bright colors, too. That’s why I like to use them for my doll items. To me, they represent a zest for life, cheerfulness, and that “look at me” vibe. Maybe it’s just us adults who’ve lost our love for bright colors?
I’ll gladly admit it too, Ina — that makes two of us. I simply love these neon colors, especially combined with black stripes. I also still have some of that fringe yarn in neon colors. But I use it as hair for my clown heads.
Neon colors also work really well for crocheted bags or crochet figures, like in Ina’s doll clothes.
A strong, bright splash of color like that is just wonderful. I love those rainbow colors too.
When I first met my ex-husband, I knitted him a ski beanie and a matching scarf in neon yellow. I almost went blind while knitting—it was that bright. Since then, I’ve given up on neon colors. But for kids, as a fun, eye-catching look—why not? And as a highlight or eye-catcher, I don’t think a little neon piece is a bad idea—just not for myself.
