Are you familiar with the legend of the four-leaf clover and the pot of gold? This is how the idea for this phone stand came to me. I did not want to keep this idea only in my mind — I wanted to hold a little bit of luck in my hands. If you are ready to catch some luck, your next step is to find a golden yarn.
You will need the following materials to crochet:
– cotton yarn YarnArt jeans 50 gr /160 m (colors: brown, green, orange)
– gold yarn Creative lame 25 gr /135 m
– crochet hook 2 mm (important, the size should match the yarn so that the stitches are even).
– needle, scissors, approximately 70 cm of wire, filler, cardboard bobbin or plastic napkin, metal weight.
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
inc – increase
dec – decrease, two single crochets together
dc – double crochet
First, we crochet the pot and form the basic structure at the same time—the assembly takes place step by step directly during crocheting.
Pot (brown)
1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 6 inc = 12 sc
3. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 18 sc
4. (2 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 24 sc
5. (3 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 30 sc
6. (4 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 36 sc
7. (5 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 42 sc
8. (6 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 48 sc
9. (7 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 54 sc
10, 11. 54 sc
12. (8 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 60 sc
13. (9 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 66 sc
14. (10 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 72 sc
15. (5 sc, 1 inc) х 12 = 84 sc (Please note — there are more increases here)
16. (6 sc, 1 inc) х 12 = 96 sc
17. (7 sc, 1 inc) х 12 = 108 sc
18 – 22. 108 sc
23. (7 sc, 1 dec) х 12 = 96 sc
24. (14 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 90 sc (Please note — the number of decreases has been changed again here)
25. (13 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 84 sc
26. (12 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 78 sc
27. (11 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 72 sc
28. (10 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 66 sc
29. (9 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 60 sc
Now we will create the frame for the entire construction.
For the base, I used a sturdy cardboard yarn tube. In my case, its dimensions are 6 × 6 cm. I made two holes through it for the wire, approximately in the middle. This part will be placed inside the pot. Therefore, you may either choose a suitable size for your finished pot piece or create a frame of the required size using firm plastic.
To give the pot a nice shape, add stuffing into the space between the crocheted fabric and the cardboard tube.
Now carefully pierce the pot opposite the pre-made holes in the tube so that you can thread the wire through. You may use a knitting needle or crochet hook to gently open the spaces between the stitches if needed. In this way, the frame for the future arms will be held very securely inside the structure.
30. (8 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 54 sc
31. (7 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 48 sc
32. (6 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 42 sc
In this round, the crocheted fabric fits tightly around the cardboard tube.
33 – 37. 42 sc
38. 42 inc = 84 sc worked into the front loops only. We will use this round later to complete the “pile of gold” effect. The photo shows the remaining back loops.
39, 40. 84 sc
41. 42 dec = 42 sc
Close, cut the thread.
Hands (2 pcs, green yarn)
8 ch in a ring
1 –32 = 8 sc
Close, trim the thread. Leave a long end of the thread for further work.
Place these parts on the frame.
Create a wire frame for the hands with a thumb, as shown in the photo. For safety, you may wrap the wire with adhesive tape. Sew these hand pieces to the pot section.
Gloves (2 pcs, orange)
Thumb (2 pcs)
1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 6 inc = 12 sc
3 – 12 = 12 sc
Close, cut the thread.
Main part of the glove (2 pcs)
Chain 8 stitches, starting 2 stitches from the needle.
1. Crochet 6 sc, 3 in 1, 6 sc, 3 in 1 = 18 sc
2. 6 sc, 3 inc, 6 sc, 3 inc = 24 sc
3. 6 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) х 3, 6 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) х 3 = 30 sc
4 – 18 = 30 sc
Now we connect the thumb to the main part.
For the left glove, we crochet the following rows as follows:
19. 14 sc, 6 sc together with the finger, 10 sc = 30 sc
20. 14 sc, 6 sc on the outer edge of the finger, 10 sc = 30 sc
For the right glove, we crochet the following rows as follows:
19. 20 sc, 6 sc together with the finger, 4 sc = 30 sc
20. 20 sc, 6 sc on the outer edge of the finger, 4 sc = 30 sc
Continue crocheting both gloves evenly with the crochet hook.
21. 30 sc
22. (3 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 24 sc
At this stage, we need to place this part on the frame. Add some filling material, but only a little, so that the hand can bend easily and the part can hold an object.
Now we continue crocheting around the frame. It's a bit fiddly, but the end result is worth the effort.
23. (2 sc, 1 dec) х 6 = 18 sc
24. We only crochet into the front loop: 18 sc = 36 sc
In the photo, I have shown the back loop. It will be useful to us later.
25 – 28 = 36 sc
29. We make a fold and crochet through the remaining part of the stitches from row 24, 18 dec = 18 sc
30. (1 сб, 1 dec) х 6 = 12 sc
Close, cut the thread.
The top of the "Mountain of Gold" pot (gold yarn)
1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 6 inc = 12 sc
3. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 18 sc
4. (2 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 24 sc
5. (3 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 30 sc
6. (4 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 36 sc
7. (5 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 42 sc
8. (6 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 48 sc
9. (7 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 54 sc
10. (8 sc, 1 inc) х 6 = 60 sc
Please note: your golden yarn may differ from mine. Therefore, adjust according to the proportion of this piece and the diameter of your pot opening. You may need to work a few extra rounds or, conversely, reduce the number of rounds if necessary.
Now we will join the golden “lid” to the pot by crocheting it to the remaining back loops from Round 38.
For better stability of the structure, you may add some weight inside. Metal granules, small decorative aquarium stones, or any other material that adds some weight and fits well in the bag are suitable for this purpose. To prevent anything from slipping or pushing through the mesh, it is advisable to put the weight in a small separate bag beforehand – a small cloth bag, a piece of tightly knotted foil, or a small sack work wonderfully here. This keeps everything neatly packed and securely in place.
Then add stuffing on top if needed. Finish crocheting around the edge to close the pot. Fasten off and cut the yarn.
Gold coins (several pieces)
1. Crochet 10 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 10 inc = 20 sc
3. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 10 = 30 sc
Close, cut the thread.
Cylinder hat (made of green yarn)
1. Crochet 10 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 10 inc = 20 sc
3. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 10 = 30 sc
4. (2 sc, 1 inc) х 10 = 40 sc
5. (3 sc, 1 inc) х 10 = 50 sc
6. 50 sc into the back loop only
The photo shows the remaining front loops.
7 – 11. 50 sc
12. (8 sc, 1 dec) х 5 = 45 sc (Please note — there are fewer decreases here.)
13. 45 sc
14. (7 sc, 1 dec) х 5 = 40 sc
15, 16. 40 sc
17. (6 sc, 1 dec) х 5 = 35 sc
18 – 21. 35 sc
22. 35 inc = 70 sc into the front loop only
23, 24. 70 sc
25. (1 sc, 1 inc) х 35 = 105 sc
26. 105 sc
27. (1 sc, 1 dec) х 35 = 70 sc
Close, cut the thread.
When we left the unused loops in Rounds 6 and 22, they serve a purely decorative function in this case. This technique also allows the fabric to bend slightly more in the desired direction.
Hat ribbon (1 piece, brown yarn)
40 ch in a ring
1, 2, 3. 40 sc
Close, cut the thread.
Please note that the ribbon should fit well around the narrow part of the hat. It is advisable to try it on during crocheting to ensure that all parts match properly.
Ribbon buckle (gold yarn)
Since golden yarn is rather rare and your yarn may differ from mine, you may need to adjust the number of stitches accordingly.
Crochet a square.
8 ch, in the 2nd ch from the hook work 1 inc. This is the first side and corner.
7 ch, in the 2nd ch from the hook work 1 inc. This is the second side and corner.
7 ch, in the 2nd ch from the hook work 1 inc. This is the third side and corner.
7 ch, in the 2nd ch from the hook work 1 inc. This is the fourth side and corner.
Round 2: work sc in each stitch around.
Close, trim the thread. Leave a long end of the thread for further work.
You should now have a square. You can sew this decoration onto the ribbon of the hat.
Four-leaf clover (4 pcs, green yarn)
Let's start with two identical pieces.
1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 6 inc = 12 sc
Fasten off the yarn on the first piece and secure it. Continue working on the second piece by joining it to the first.
On the inside of both pieces, crochet 3 sc — these will form the inner walls of the piece.
Continue crocheting in the round through both pieces:
1. 9 sc on the first piece, 9 sc on the second piece = 18 sc
2. 18 sc
3. 8 sc, 1 dec, 6 sc, 1 dec = 16 sc
4. 16 sc
5. 1 dec, 5 sc, 1 dec, 7 sc = 14 sc
6. 14 sc
Then add the filling material.
7. 6 sc, 1 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec = 12 sc
8. 6 dec = 6 sc
9. 3 dec = 3 sc
Close, cut the thread.
Clover core (1-piece, green yarn)
1. Crochet 6 sc in a Magic Ring
2. 20 ch, in the 2nd ch from the hook work 19 sc
Close, trim the thread. Leave a long end of the thread for further work.
Sew 4 petals to the center. I attached the clover leaf to a wooden skewer using a small drop of glue.
Now we will assemble the entire composition. Sew the hat onto the “pile of gold” with a few stitches, placing it slightly to the side. On the other side, add the coins and secure them with a couple of stitches. Finally, attach the clover flower.
But I wanted even more luck, so I added a small clover to the pot.
1. Crochet 8 sc in a Magic Ring
2. (1 sc, 7 ch, 1 sc) х 4
For those who prefer working from diagrams, I have drawn a simple row-by-row scheme.
3. 1 sc between the petals. Now, for each petal, crochet as follows: 3 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, 2 dc, 3 sc.
Repeat this sequence for 3 petals in the same way.
At the end, add a stem made of 7 ch. Sew it to the center of the pot.
Hooray! I am now holding a little pot of luck in my hands. I hope you enjoyed the making process, and that your own piece brings you just as much joy. Now it is time for you to hold your own pot of luck as well.
