Dear users, dear designers,
socks are very popular right now, probably because of the weather. :- ) So it’s quite understandable that people here in the forum often talk about making socks. That’s why I thought a dedicated thread for this would be worthwhile, and here it is. Have fun with it.

Thanks for this thread, Josefa :)
I’ve recently taken up sock knitting myself.
I made my first two pairs very simply with a heel flap and a banded toe, and I knitted them with the Crasy Trio because I absolutely can’t get the hang of a set of double-pointed needles. It’s fun, but it’s very hard on the wrists.

I’m currently tinkering with a heel that’s really easy to knit, and I get new flashes of inspiration every day. Knitting socks isn’t really my thing, but now—and with the Crasy Trio—it’s actually really quick and easy.

I’ve already finished the first pair of socks for my husband, and they fit great. Here’s what they look like:

Now I’ve got some kids’ socks on the needles, and then I’ll knit some for myself. And some for the baby, too. Then I’ll have a pattern for all sizes.

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes...

Best, Monika

After what feels like an eternity, I’ve gotten back into knitting socks.

This time, I’m planning to make reversible socks (double-faced).

I feel like I've knitted 1,000 pairs of socks already :-)

Especially with the heel, it depends on what works best for them.
I teach knitting classes, and everyone always wants to knit the classic heel again and again.
So just try out what you get along with best.

Tip: When picking up stitches for the gusset, always insert the needle into the stitch from the back
and knit out alternately 1 knit stitch, 1 twisted stitch.
That way you avoid holes.

Best wishes and have fun
Birgit

Two years ago, I tried making spiral socks. The result wasn’t bad at all.

Marion, how do spiral socks actually feel when you wear them? Don’t they slip down when you’re wearing them? That’s always been my concern...

Mel, I don’t wear them often—mostly in hiking boots or sneakers.
So far, they definitely haven’t slipped down.

That’s good to know! I usually wear wool socks at home instead of slippers, but I don’t like it when they “twist around my foot” or slip down.

Mel, those turned out really nice, too. I’ll send you a PM.

I recently joined the ranks of sock knitters too, also using Trios. I still always do (I think I'm on my 5th pair now) a heel flap and gusset and a wedge toe, so pretty standard. I tried a short-row heel, but mine turned out really full of holes. I definitely need to give it another try. I knit really tightly, so tightening the yarn more isn't possible anymore; -)
