The gauge is turning out round...

I'm trying to make a gauge swatch with pretty thick yarn—about 8 mm. But it keeps turning out round, kind of like a V... What am I doing wrong? :(

Are you crocheting or knitting?

Do you mean it’s curling up?

If you’re knitting stockinette stitch, it’s normal for the gauge swatch to curl up.

For my gauge swatches, I first knit three rows in seed stitch, and I also knit four stitches in seed stitch at the beginning and end. In the middle, there are 20 stitches. These are easy to measure and convert to 10 x 10 cm. I wish everyone a great start to the new year.
