Zigzag-Striped Hat?

Hi

Maybe someone has a tip: I want to crochet a hat with a zigzag stripe pattern all the way around it. Kind of like Charlie Brown’s sweater from Peanuts ????
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea how to make it look nice. Do I change colors exactly at the same spots in each row, or is there another trick? I’m pretty new to crocheting and not quite that skilled or creative with ideas yet. The basic technique for the hat is either single crochet or double crochet. 

I’d be grateful for any tips.

in the large video collection.
Is that what you mean?
You could emphasize the outlines with a needle and thread.
And the resulting zigzag gaps can probably be filled with half double crochets and double crochets.
That’s just my thought. :)
