As a long-time fan and customer of Crazypatterns, I’ve now decided to become an author. I’ve obtained a business license and applied for a VAT ID number. The clerk at the tax office told me it could take up to 6 weeks for me to receive my VAT ID number. This is a bit frustrating for me, since I’d have time now to post patterns on Crazypatterns. So here’s my question: Does it make sense to write the patterns in advance as Word files and then upload them to Crazypatterns once the VAT ID number finally arrives? Thank you so much for your answers!
Even though my question might sound silly... but where can I find the author forum? I always run into trouble trying to register as an author because I can’t provide a UST-ID number.
As far as I know, you don’t need a UST ID at all...
It’s best to contact support about this.
You’ll get access to the authors’ forum as soon as your first pattern is uploaded :) It’s just “here” in the regular forum—you’ll recognize the relevant threads by their red color.
to come back to your original question:
Yes, of course it makes perfect sense to write the patterns at your own pace, whenever you have the time and inclination to do so. That way, you’ll have plenty of time for descriptions, wording, possibly supporting images for a tricky part of the pattern, perhaps even knitting or crochet charts, and of course a few nice photos of the finished product.
After all, you’ll only upload the finished pattern here on crazypatterns as a PDF file once everything is complete.
I hope this helps a little — and I’m already looking forward to seeing your designs.
Best regards, and enjoy being part of our community of authors
Stefanie
Now I’d also like to say a few words about the VAT ID. This is required to sell digital goods—in our case, our patterns—to other EU countries.
I think that’s why this VAT ID must also be provided on Crazypatterns (since this tax is remitted for every sale). That’s probably why you can’t fully register as an author without providing it.
Yes, of course—CP acts as the seller. But maybe CP still has to verify that the authors have a VAT ID?
In any case, providing the VAT ID suggests that the author who wants to register has completed all the necessary legal steps (business registration, etc.). So that’s also a safeguard for CP and might save them from further complicated bureaucratic hassle. At least, that’s how I see it.
