Help! How do I follow this pattern...

I’m new to crocheting. The head, hands, and ears are done, but I’m having trouble with the body. I’m crocheting a sheep lovey... 
I can manage the crocheting, but I don’t know what the pattern wants me to do... 

Round 1: 18 ch, 1 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, 14 dc, 3 dc in the last st, continue on the other side of the chain, 15 dc, 3 dc in the last st, join with a sl st in the 1st dc [36]

Round 2: 2 ch, *17 dc, 2 dc in the next st*, repeat from * to * one more time, join with a sl st in the 1st dc [38]

Can someone please help me? 

You’re crocheting a sort of oval here.
When you reach the end of the foundation chain, continue along the underside of the chain until you’ve come back to the first stitch.

It will look something like this:
the white lines are the 3 dc that you crocheted into the last st of the ch chain, the arrow shows where you should continue crocheting on the back side of the ch chain.
After that, it will look like this:
