Where’s the mistake...?

Hi everyone,

I hope one of you can give me a tip on what my mistake might be:

I tried to crochet a headband following the pattern. Chain a foundation chain of chain stitches and join with a slip stitch, chain one, then work one round of single crochet, slip stitch into the first single crochet (this round is identical to the last round). Then crochet 4 rounds: starting with 2 chain stitches and 2 double crochets in the 1st stitch, skip 2 stitches, then 3 double crochets in the next stitch, and so on. Finish with a slip stitch in the top chain stitch.

Now for my problem:
The number of stitches is the same in the first and last rounds, so there probably isn’t a stitch error (?!) when starting and finishing the individual rounds. Nevertheless, the band is much wider in the last round than in the first!
I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong… even with another pattern using double crochets (2 in one stitch, then skip one), the crochet piece gets wider and wider from round to round…

I suspect it’s because of the round transition.
I tried it out and I’ll show you a picture.
If the 3 double crochets line up on top of each other in every round, it actually stays the same.
But you could also ask the designer if the pattern is from here. I’m sure she’ll help you.

For me, the first round was often tighter than the following ones, too. That was because I was crocheting my chain stitches too tightly. I then crocheted the foundation chain using a thicker hook. Maybe that will help you, too?
