Knitting Pattern for a Hooded Jacket

Could you please describe the pattern for the hood in more detail? I don’t understand why I have to knit another 18 cm after the decreases, and what the whole thing looks like after knitting the trim.
Does the trim go over the front panel, the hood edge (k1 and p1 offset), then over the cast-off stitches, then over the held stitches, then over the cast-off stitches again, and then the other front panel? Unfortunately, it’s not clear from the pictures either. To me, it looks as though only 18 cm are knitted for the hood, then the 17 stitches are bound off on both sides, and after that the stitches are placed on hold.
