And they’ve already laid an egg as a gift for us <3

She’s so cute—what’s her name?

Best regards
Birgit

There are four of them :)

And so far, only the white one has a name: Gaby (a very dear friend of mine—she really, really wanted that).
The others will get their names from the kids.

Almost every day, our neighbors’ two runner ducks peck around in our garden looking for something to eat—we’ve had practically no snails this year! The female has apparently laid an egg here every now and then, too…

Ooooh... then you can eat a breakfast egg with a clear conscience! But these aren’t battery hens, right?

Well then, good luck with the new addition to the family. Is a rooster joining the family too? If so, that would mean even more additions...

Oh, that’s... great... they really do provide for themselves. I’d take 10 fresh eggs every week - laughs -. Wishing you lots and lots of joy.
Best regards, Christine

Oh, that’s so great. I love seeing them dust-bathe in the sand while out on a walk—chickens are wonderful. Wishing you lots of joy with them.

Wow, I hope you have lots of fun with the new addition to your family, too. Your kids are going to love feeding them. My granddaughter lives on a farm and has fun every day sharing her food (or leftovers) with the chickens.

That goes perfectly with your crocheted flock of birds! :-)

They all have names now:

The dark brown hen is called Berta, the light brown one Henriette, the white one with white feet Bäbel, and the white one with yellow feet Gaby.

And no, they are not "KZ chickens." At the moment, they have about 2x1 meters of space in their run, and by the middle of next week they will get another 4x1 meters added. As soon as the garden is completely escape-proof, they will also be allowed to roam freely under supervision!

There won't be a rooster joining them.

Sandra, I didn’t mean that they ended up in a concentration camp at your place ... “concentration camp chickens” is what they call the ones that have to spend their lives in factory farming on just a few square centimeters.  In the animal welfare mailing lists, retired hens from battery cages are posted from time to time. They still want to peck and walk around for a few months (which they often have to learn all over again first). But yours look totally fit. By the way, I think Gaby is a great name for a chicken :-)
