Leftover yarn: Do you have a lot of it?

Dear users, dear authors,
do you have any leftover yarn?
If so, please weigh your leftover yarn or add up the total length.
I'm curious to see who can score really high here. :- )

If weighing isn’t “your thing,” how about a few photos of your basket of leftover yarn?

Have you completely run out of leftover yarn?

Hello Josefa!
So you’re not all alone here, I’ll tell you about my leftover yarn.
Well, I have a box full of cotton yarn for amigurumi and the like.
That’s about 50 partly used and new balls. But to me they aren’t really leftovers, because they’ll definitely still be used and will keep getting restocked.
Then I also have 300 g of acrylic-wool blend in black, (no plans)
my new gradient yarn cake (I don’t know the weight right now)
400 g of thick hand-spun merino wool (will become a scarf and hat)
600 g of silk-viscose yarn (will become a sweater)
4 x 50 g cotton yarn (which I want to use to lengthen or refresh my sweater,) so not really leftovers but already planned projects...
From my blanket I still have a good 200 g of pink plied acrylic yarn (Bobbelei) left over. (no plans)
and because I have too few leftovers to conjure up a patchwork blanket for my husband, I bought 6 balls of merino, alpaca, and merino/alpaca blend yarn.

I don’t have that much leftover yarn… most of the time, when I need some kind of gift wrapping, I make little bags, crochet around candle holders, and turn the tiniest scraps into butterflies or little flowers… I’ve also twisted the leftover yarn into cords and used it as gift ribbon. That way, my stash of leftovers doesn’t get too big.   What tends to hang around here for a while are single skeins that I’ve received as gifts. But eventually, I’ll come up with an idea for those too.

Oh, the idea of twisting leftover yarn into gift ribbon is one I really like.

When does a bit of yarn count as leftover yarn? I have so many half-used balls lying around, but for me they’re not leftovers, because you can still make something from them or use them together with other yarns.

Then I have a jar with real leftovers in it. Often there isn’t even enough left for a little flower. My grandchild often plays with them. Since we no longer wind them up and just keep stuffing them back into the jar, they’re great for playing "volcano eruption," and the whole lot gets scattered over the Playmobil landscape when the eruption happens.

So I have few real leftover yarn scraps, but I do have (unfortunately) a lot of yarn scraps for further use lying around in various boxes.

Well, for me, every half-used ball of yarn is leftover yarn, since it’s always what’s left over from some project. And I have more than enough of that! I don’t even know exactly how much there is, because it’s stashed away in various boxes and cabinets. I’d guess it’s about 1–2 moving boxes’ worth!

But of course, I’ll keep using it! It’s no coincidence that my shop mainly features patterns for things you can make with leftover yarn.

The only catch is this: when I have an idea, I do use my leftover yarn, but then I always end up needing another color or a type of yarn that I don’t have enough of, so I buy a new ball of yarn, don’t use it all up, and—poof!—I’ve got yet another leftover ball of yarn!

@Petra: For me, partially used skeins are leftovers.

Sure, you can still use them—but they’re left over, so they’re leftovers.

I still have a few leftover Bobbels and a couple of partially used skeins lying around... But I keep it to a minimum, since I always use them for little side projects :)
I turn my leftovers into scarves and hats to donate :)

What is leftover yarn? Good question...
I have about a moving box full of it—many of which I got from my sister. It’s all partially used skeins without labels, and there’s only one of each. It’s too good to throw away, so I’ll probably tackle a few leftover yarn projects soon...

Partially used skeins of cotton yarn, like the kind I use for my amigurumi or decorations, aren’t really “leftover yarn” to me, since I still have the same yarn—albeit in a different color—and can always put it to good use.

I like to use very short scraps as stitch markers—as long as they don’t shed—or as stuffing for small amigurumi or decorations.
