Which trends would you like to see (or not see) make a comeback? Batik might be making a comeback.

Dear users, dear authors,
Do you like batik? Tie-dye might be making a big comeback.

Which trends would you like to see return?
Which trends do you think should definitely not come back into style?
Let me know.

I absolutely love flared pants and my Buffalo platform shoes.
The two together are unbeatable.

I’ve kept ALL my Buffalos in every color and style
and hope they come back into fashion.

Okay, I’m a bit older now than I was back then, but for my Buffalos
age doesn’t matter.

Best, Heike

Please no more shoulder pads.
I got rid of those a long time ago.

Instead, I like corduroy pants and sweater vests.
I also loved those so-called carrot pants—or as they were called in Switzerland: “Rüeblihosen.”

Oh Heike, I had flared pants and Buffalo shoes, too. I love bootcut jeans and really don’t like the current skinny trend...
I think the worst trend was those blouses with those huge clown collars—they were in style in the early ’90s.
But I think Josefa was referring more to DIY trends?
I’d pass on making rugs or cushions. Batik can be really pretty, though....

Any trends that come to mind are welcome here—
craft trends, fashion trends, color trends, etc. :-)

For me, it’s a music trend —the Neue Deutsche Welle was so much fun for me when I was younger, and I’d still enjoy it today. :-)

I don’t need the perm trend anymore, even though I had one myself for years.

Oh, bell-bottoms would be great :-) and was batik ever really out?? ;-)

Yeah, those huge collars and shoulder pads don't really need to come back, just like that garbage-man orange.

Leggings...phew, I don’t need leggings anymore. And you’re seeing them again—terrible. The last thing I need are those jeggings, or whatever they’re called: leggings printed to look like jeans.

I’ll let them slide for sports and stuff. That’s where they come from, and that’s where they belong.

Ballet flats, bell-bottoms, patent leather shoes, shoulder pads, perms + bob hairstyles, corduroy pants, balaclavas, balloon skirts, sequins ← I found/find all of that absolutely awful

Batik clothing, any kind of hippie style (with or without fringe), leather jackets, ankle boots, sneakers at least ankle-high, headbands, stretch pants, Bedouin scarves ← I always thought they were great, I still love them today

When it comes to handmade trends I still love pretty much everything somehow....except maybe embroidery, knotting, and macramé

And as for music: techno, rap, hip-hop, jazz, and blues ← absolutely not for me
Otherwise I listen to pretty much everything, especially pop, rock, and metal, or a musical now and then

And colors you won't find in my wardrobe are: pink/rose, green, red, and yellow

But you do like to use pink yarn for your patterns. :-)

Yes, of course... because others/most people really like the colors... I don’t take myself as the benchmark—otherwise my shop would be pretty dreary... lol

I never, ever, ever want to see shoulder pads again.
The mullet and the mini perm can also stay right where they’ve disappeared to. :-)))

Ahhh...I just thought of something else I find absolutely awful.....

Moccasins...they’re okay on women, but when men wear them, ....*shudder*

Those Modern Talking-style tracksuits were awful too....*snort*.......and those trousers where the crotch practically had to hang down to your knees...haha

When I think about it, there really have been some terrible fashion faux pas....^^

Although all that neon stuff in the ’80s was kind of cool, I didn’t wear it. It was totally back in style again in recent years too

I’ll keep thinking...haha

And those belts with metal slide buckles—you had to tie them in a knot and let them hang down. Creepy in hindsight. Carrot pants, too. And shoulder pads and perms. Uaaaaah.

But honestly, the ’80s were totally cool!
Just the music alone. Ah, when I think about how innovative that decade was. Today, everything’s just all the same....

Of course they were cool! And so were we ;-) but there are still some things I just can’t get excited about anymore *cackle*

Oh, the memories of perms you’ve just brought back… please, please, never again… although I had one too back then, of course. There are some really, really awful photos… and those shell suits—you’d always see grown men walking around in them here—preferably paired with leather loafers. HORRIBLE!

That said, it would be nice to see a few eccentric artists pop up in the music scene again—that was really fun back in the ’80s! Adam Ant, Culture Club, Cyndi Lauper, Trio, Tina Turner, Wham… and of course Billy Idol, whom I still absolutely love hearing live!

Speaking of crafts—I’m actually wondering right now if I still have my old macramé books. I really had fun with that back then.

What I can’t imagine doing anymore is rug knotting—that was also in style back then, but I never liked it.

By the way, I love jazz—not the Dixieland style, but more along the lines of jazz rock and more experimental styles.

I have to agree with the others about perms. I still think they’re awful—I had one myself in the ’90s, and my mom stubbornly keeps wearing hers to this day. As for other fashion trends, I’m not a big fan of those awful orange shades, and I’m no techno fanatic either—I prefer calmer music.
However, I’ve heard that German-language music is supposed to be back in style now?

I think stripes are a total no-go.

Bell-bottoms were great. Unfortunately, the clothes from back then don’t fit me anymore.

Off the top of my head, I’d say the mullet should definitely not make a comeback. It looked so awful on men. And I loved the ’60s. I like women in dresses and skirts, and the rockabilly era with its gorgeous dresses. Sigh…
And off the top of my head, I also remember the cars from back then—the ones where you could still fix almost everything yourself. Oops, I’m getting sidetracked, but it was still wonderful.
Best regards, Christine

Oh yeah… tinkering with cars—that was still a thing back then… I had a lot of fun with my first car—it was a VW Scirocco. It was already 14 years old and basically a clunker when I bought it… I just didn’t know that at the time!

But I learned quickly, and my dad showed a lot of patience during that time, somehow managing to fix it up with me time and time again. It was kind of great, that father-daughter time. That wouldn’t be possible at all today… just tinkering with the car on the lawn in front of the house…
