Basic Equipment for Beginners

Dear users, dear authors,
what do beginners—who have no materials and absolutely no equipment such as crochet hooks, knitting needles, etc.—absolutely need?

I’ll leave it up to you to decide which type of handicraft you’d like to describe and what equipment is needed for it.

I’ll go with crochet supplies:

• Crochet hooks in sizes 3 through 6—these can be used for the most common projects.
  Later on, you can use thicker or thinner hooks.
• Stitch markers are helpful for marking pattern repeats and making it easier to count
• Row/round counters
