Dyeing Wool Yourself – Yarn Quality

Hi everyone :)

I’ve been crocheting for almost 3 years now. I’ve recently gotten the idea to dye my own yarn.

I’ve already figured out how it works thanks to Google ;)

I’m just having a few issues with the yarn’s texture. I know it has to be natural yarn.
Store-bought yarn always specifies which needle size it’s meant for.

But the yarn I have for dyeing just says:

9-4 DK

, 5-3 Aran

, 16-4

, and 8-4 DK.

Does anyone here know what that means? Thanks in advance :)
