Does crafting have a hypnotic effect?

Dear users, dear authors,
could it be that crafts are hypnotic?
Let me know. :-)

Some types of handwork do have a hypnotic effect on me—especially when I have to count the same stitches over and over, like a verse: one, two, three, one, two, three... But overall, I don’t find handwork hypnotic; rather, I find it veeeery relaxing and calming.

Sometimes they are mesmerizing :)
When you tell yourself “I’ll just finish this row/round, then I’ll stop....”
But by then, the project has already hypnotized you, and you can’t stop—and before you know it, an hour has passed and you’re many rows/rounds further along. Then someone snaps their fingers or claps, and you snap out of it, unable to remember how it all happened.......

Yeah... And then you wake up and think: Oh nooo! It’s already so late!
...But then you want to just finish that row before you go to sleep...
And just like that, you’re hypnotized all over again ;) 

I couldn’t agree more—I often feel that way, too.

Just one more row to go… and then suddenly an hour has gone by.

The new patterns are hypnotic, too. They often seem to say,
“Buy me!” and then demand to be worked on right away.

Exactly. I feel the same way. When I see yarn, I just want to crochet. There are plenty of patterns out there.
One more round here, another round there… which isn’t great, especially when you have to go out the next day. It really is hypnotic *laughs*
