Origami: Information, Tips and Tricks

I sometimes do origami for fun.

It’s important to work carefully, since uneven folds can come back to haunt you.
The size and type of paper also determine whether a model is a bit easier or harder to recreate.


So far, I’ve only ever followed instructions from books.

I dabbled in origami for a while and folded quite a few things (always following instructions in books). Off the top of my head, though, I can only fold this jumping frog :-), which a nice neighbor taught me about 40 years ago.

I admire everyone who can do this. I’ve tried it myself many times, but unfortunately, I’m completely talentless when it comes to it.

I can only fold fish... I had to fold them so often during my internship at the preschool that I can do it in my sleep....

Do classic paper boats and paper airplanes count as origami?
If so, I can make those too ;) 

I’ve folded quite a few things, including with my grandson—who isn’t quite nine yet—and he’s really good at it. I have several instruction books on my shelf: animals, flowers, office supplies, decorations... Unfortunately, I can’t remember the folds by heart, so I’ve been glad to get help from YouTube!

Since these paper boats are folded from a single sheet of paper, they’re also considered origami.

I always enjoy folding from diagrams or videos on the internet. I’ve also adapted one or two patterns into textiles.
