Who among you has dyed wool before?

I haven’t done that deliberately yet, only accidentally in the washing machine
but I guess that’s not what you meant.

I think there are two options
dyeing wool with natural dyes

It probably depends on whether you prefer chemical or plant-based dyes, and also on the type of wool and what you can use if you want to dye it well and evenly.

What kind of wool do you want to dye?
Were you unable to find the shade you wanted in the shop?
or do you just want to try out everything you can do with wool?

Does the dye wash out, or does it bleed and stain other clothes?

Hi,
I haven’t dyed any yarn myself yet, but I have worked with quite a bit of hand-dyed yarn.
This yarn was dyed with Luvotex.
As a precaution, I pre-washed the finished item (socks, sweater, scarf, etc.) by hand once.

It hardly bleeds at all, though. Further washing is then no problem. The colors are so well-set that they hold up very well.

Good to hear that it doesn’t bleed that much
dyeing it myself is somehow a bit too complicated for me, since there are already so many shades available in stores.
Too bad flyowl hasn’t said anything else about what the wool is needed for or anything like that.
