What is actually the correct way to knit the second half of the boomerang heel?
middle third – turning stitch
middle third + 1 stitch – turning stitch (which would actually make sense)

Hello Christina
the 2nd explanation is correct, always add 1 stitch, + turning stitch (double stitch)
until all stitches have been used up (on each needle)
