Crochet Guide: Voodoo Doll Pincushion

Hi everyone,

I’m new to crocheting and would like to make a voodoo doll pincushion. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble following the pattern... Here’s an excerpt:

• magic ring 
• Round 1: 6 sc in the magic ring (6 stitches)
• Round 2: Double every stitch (12 stitches)
• Round 3: Double every 2nd stitch (18 stitches)
• Round 4: 1 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch (double every 3rd stitch). Repeat from ( to ) 5 times. 1 sc (24 stitches)
• Round 5: Double every 4th stitch (30 stitches)
• Round 6: 2 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch (double every 5th stitch). Repeat from ( to ) 5 times. 2 sc. (36 stitches)
• Round 7: 36 sc in the back loop only (36 stitches)

Rounds 4 and 6 are giving me a headache. I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain them to me in more detail :)

in Round 4, you always double every 3rd stitch. But the instructions are a bit confusing. You crochet 1 sc, 2 sc in the next stitch, then 1 sc in each of the next two stitches, and 2 sc in the next stitch.
Repeat this until the end of the round and finish with 1 sc. You should then have 24 stitches. 

In Round 6, you crochet 2 sc, then 2 sc in the next stitch, then 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches, and 2 sc in the next stitch again. You repeat this until the end of the round and finish with 2 sc. You should now have 36 sc. 

That’s exactly how I tested it, too. I also end up with 36 stitches using these instructions, but only if I ignore 2 stitches from the previous round. 

I think I’ve got it. I just found the English pattern for this and then it all clicked...

What I have now

1 sc / 1 sc / 2 sc / (4*1 sc / 2 sc)*5 / 1 sc / 1 sc

= 36 stitches :D

Yep, that’s basically the same as in the German pattern, just described better ^^
