Which yarn goes well with mine???

Hi everyone!
I bought 500g of the gorgeous Noro Kogarashi over the weekend and would love to knit a cardigan with it. Obviously, 500g isn’t enough, so I was thinking of combining it with some dark gray yarn.
The specifications for the Noro yarn are as follows:
51% silk, 49% wool; 100g = approx. 150m
For needle sizes 5–6

What would pair well with it in terms of material and weight? It also needs to be similar in terms of washability and durability. It would be great if anyone had any tips.

Thanks, I think so too, but what goes with it?

I’d definitely knit a small gauge swatch first. That way, you can better see which color or shade goes well with it.

I’ll do that. But I’m also concerned about finding the right matching material. For example, can I use pure merino wool, or does it also need to contain some silk? I don’t want the jacket to warp unattractively after washing because the materials aren’t compatible. And I’m still not sure about the thickness of the second yarn.

Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with this yarn, so I can’t really judge it. It certainly looks very nice!
My yarn shop owner once told me that Noro yarns are surface-treated with a kind of wax. That’s why they feel a bit stiff at first. But that goes away after the first wash. I can confirm this—I tried it with Silk Garden. It didn’t turn out quite as soft as pure merino wool, though. Merino wool can be a nice contrast if you want to achieve a different texture.
But take all this with a grain of salt, because, as I said, I’ve never worked with your yarn before.

I guess I’ll just have to give it a try.

Hi,
that’s a great yarn. Off the top of my head, I’d go for a yarn in a turquoise shade (like one of the shades in your yarn), maybe even something fluffy... I think it’s especially nice for a cardigan if it has some soft, cozy patches.

Best regards from Munich

Claudia

Turquoise would also be an option...
it’s my favorite color, but I already have a lot of turquoise items....
we’ll see

I just came across this thread again and didn’t want to keep the final result from anyone who’s interested ;) The coat has actually been finished for a while now; in the end, I was able to get the same yarn again, so I didn’t need a contrasting color.

Mel, your jacket looks really great. The colors are also very pretty.

I can’t imagine it in two colors at all.

Marion, my husband agreed (his exact words: “Otherwise it’ll look like crap — buy the same yarn, it should turn out nice too!”)
Good thing I listened to him! I’m completely satisfied and love wearing it!

Mel, I’m seeing this thread for the first time now. It’s been a while, after all.
Your cardigan is super-duper awesome! I really like it—it’s a great piece!

I also think it looks best exactly as it is, made with the same yarn.
