I need some help with “Carlos the Crab,” please

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I’m currently crocheting “Carlos the Crab” for my 5-month-old son… or rather, I’m trying to, because unfortunately I don’t really understand the pattern.
Here’s an excerpt from the part about the front claw:

But I don’t understand this—with the yarn from the second claw, continue crocheting first on the first claw and then back to the second??? 
And how is it supposed to be closed?
Is my question clear with this excerpt? Or should I write out lines 2–8 after all?

Have you tried writing to the author of the pattern directly to ask for help?

Is this a pattern from crazypatterns? If so, you can easily send a message to any author here—just click on the member’s name to go to their profile page, and there you’ll find the “Send a Message” button.

Or maybe the pattern includes an email address you can contact ...
