I have another question now that I’ve already gotten help with my first one. Thanks again!!
I have a very old sewing machine (Privileg 1520) and haven’t sewn in a long time (even though I once trained as a professional seamstress).
Now I’m wondering which stitch I should use for jersey so that nothing stretches out or puckers. I don’t have any new equipment like an overlocker.
There are about 5 different zigzag variations, double and triple straight stitches (though I’m not even sure if I still have the twin needles), and, well, that’s pretty much it.
The instruction manual is gone and no longer available. Taking a photo and uploading it… I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed right now.
You don’t need a twin needle for the triple straight stitch. It’s an elastic stitch done with a regular needle.
It’s very important that you use the finest jersey needle possible (a size 70 or 75).
Then you’ll need to loosen the thread tension slightly, and under no circumstances should you stretch or pull the fabric while sewing!
I’d recommend using a very tightly set zigzag, triple zigzag, or triple straight stitch.
Try it out on a scrap of fabric!
And if you have a walking foot, be sure to use it!
