Design question: How do you design clothing?

Hi everyone!

Well, how do you design clothes... hmm... for me, it usually goes like this:
I suddenly get an idea—like, for example, crocheting a new little dress for my 3-year-old.
Then I actually start by thinking about what color(s) it should be and pick out the right yarn.
Next comes the question of which stitch I want to use—for me, that usually depends on the color and thickness of the yarn.
Then I think about the basic shape (for example, whether the dress should be flared or have a straight cut).
And finally, I just get started.
Sometimes the result turns out exactly as I’d envisioned it; sometimes I don’t like it at all and I unravel everything back to a certain point; sometimes I discard this or that idea along the way...
Basically, it’s a process of trial and error, making changes, going back and forth—and in the end, there’s almost always a beautiful result.
