How are your yarn stash, leftover yarn, and UFOs coming along?

Dear users, dear authors,
how’s your yarn stash doing? Are your leftover yarn scraps doing well?
Tell me all about it.
The Empress is taking a break until January, so you can shop as much as you like. :-)
In 2018, we’ll have another fun UFO Week, so you can use up the leftover yarn.

My yarn stash is growing and thriving—even though I’m constantly crocheting at home ;-)

It’s just such a comforting feeling to have plenty of yarn at home.

My stash has gained some fabric. I have no idea what I’ll do with it, but at least I have some at home just in case.
I’ve also got more yarn. I’ve already ordered the yarn for the new seat covers for my car—in beige, pink, and red. They’re so beautifully bold. I still have so much red yarn at home (I wanted to make a sweater with it years ago) that’s just as vibrant, and I’ll combine it with that.

That’s the best part about yarn like this. You buy it, and then the project never quite works out. And then you can make something completely different out of it—something you hadn’t even remotely thought of when you bought it. And leftover yarn is a veritable treasure trove of ideas.

Hi,

I’ve actually resolved to only crochet projects for which
I already have the yarn.

BUT:

Someone is always asking for something crocheted, and then I don’t have the yarn or
don’t have enough.
So I’m shopping like crazy.
Here, 10 skeins for a poncho; there, 5 skeins for gifts; and then another
10 skeins for good-luck charms...
oh, I could go on and on with this list.

So, as you can see, my yarn stash just keeps growing and growing and growing.

I think I’ll have to live to be 120 years old to work through all these mountains of yarn.

Here’s a little anecdote:

We bought a new cabinet for the study. It consists of two parts.
Part 1 is a two-door cabinet, and Part 2 is a narrow cabinet with roller shutters at the top and bottom.
There wasn’t enough room in the study for the roller-shutter cabinet.
So I said to my husband,
“Oh, let’s put it upstairs, and I’ll store yarn in it—it’s perfect for that.” Then we
won’t have a roller-shutter cabinet, but a wool-shutter cabinet.

He didn’t find it as funny as I did.

Best regards, Heike

Yes, the yarn mountain just keeps growing and growing....
When I first started my little “yarn obsession” in the living room, I’d simply claimed two compartments on the shelf right next to my desk. But since one skein or another kept falling down due to lack of space, I quickly took over an entire shelf (FOUR large compartments) in the guest room. My husband’s “ancient collection” of videos, which used to be there, is now packed away in a box in the basement! He didn’t think it was funny, but he’s too lazy to bring them back up—so that’s just how it is :)
Unfortunately, I’ve already hit my space limit again....... but there’s still a shelf full of movie CDs—evil grin ;(

Yes, men have a very different sense of humor there, strange, isn’t it? (Grin)

Yes, kind of. But eventually, the men do come to accept the yarn addiction and stop fighting it.
My husband threw out the little old box in the basement and put a big storage unit in its place. He said, “You can put your yarn in there.” Seriously, I was as happy as can be.
The only thing missing now are the shelves for the unit. It was a huge old hanging cabinet that he got as a gift from somewhere, and half of it is now all mine. The other half will hold the stuff that was in the small box before.

Once everything’s put away, I can see if I can clear out a few more boxes in the basement and then stock up my yarn stash.
But I’ll only do that after the next Wool Kaiser. This time, I want to stick with it. I’m really determined.

So, unfortunately, my yarn stash has grown again. But I still want to make something for Christmas with it. On the plus side, my leftover yarn has decreased a bit.
The UFOs are still on hold.

Your stories really are funny... :-)

I’m really proud that I firmly resisted all the promotional emails from my online shop and didn’t order a thing ... pat on the back.

But ... (no, I didn’t buy anything indirectly) I’ve already made some space in a drawer in my bedroom closet. There were things in there that I managed to store a bit more tightly together with other items. And now I have room for new yarn, which will surely arrive again next year. I’ve resolved to stay strong until spring.

For my birthday in March, I’m going to ask everyone for yarn gift cards, and then I’ll look forward to restocking.

Until then, I’ll use up quite a bit and make loooads of space. :-)

Well, those good intentions! Unfortunately, I couldn't find the right yarn in my stash for the two pairs of wrist warmers as Christmas gifts... And it was the same story with the crochet thread, so I had to order some and go shopping!
With the new yarn, I can now crochet loooads of cute little angels, snowflakes, and more. The UFOs are on hold—Christmas comes first!

I’ve made a firm resolution to reduce my yarn stash... so I’ve been crocheting diligently and made some space. The result was a really, really ugly gap—emphasis on “was” ;-) As life would have it, all of a sudden—and I’m truly innocent here—the gap was filled again, so much so that there’s already another little basket sitting next to it.

Somehow, this whole “clearing out” thing just isn’t working out....

My yarn stash has grown.
Right now I only have one UFO—a very big one: my tablecloth.

I’ve been really busy and used up a pretty big box of leftover yarn. I made a large stole, a shawl, and two scarves out of it.

Wow, Alisande! That looks amazing—what you’ve conjured up from that leftover yarn!

Today I wasn’t quite as disciplined with my yarn diet... and while shopping, I picked up a few colorful cotton clearance items in spring colors. That immediately gave me ideas for spring and Easter decorations. After all, you can’t start early enough. ;-)

I still have plenty of leftover cotton yarn; I just don’t know yet what I’ll make from it. It’s usually a spontaneous idea, just like with the previous leftovers. I’m glad you liked my results. :-)

ruthK That CD rack is a great idea. I have one of those too. My problem is, when I find white yarn, I always have to look for the matching color. Wasn't there a light blue one somewhere? But where?
CDs can just as easily go on a bookshelf. Oh well, there's always work to be done.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone who still stops by here.

Jana
