I almost don’t dare say it, but I sorted through and tidied up my yarn this morning
.
All I can say is, “Oh my God” — and so can my husband.
I had no idea I had sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
yarn.
I swore to myself this morning that from now on
I’ll only work on projects for which I already have the yarn and won’t
buy any more.
My stash isn’t getting any smaller right now either, but that’s because I simply haven’t been able to do any crafting lately. Due to some personal matters, I’m so “mentally exhausted” in the evenings that I usually fall asleep before the prime-time movie even starts. When I do manage to pick up a crochet hook, I can only do 1–2 rows or rounds at most before I’m completely “drained” again.
And there’s still no end in sight to this stressful personal phase :\/. That means everyone will have to wait quite a while for new designs and patterns for now — but that’s just how it is. Personal matters come first......
Hello Tanja
Yes, personal matters come first. (That has taken priority for me too lately.) But I’m already looking forward to your next patterns. I enjoy browsing your shop. You’ve created so many beautiful things. I wish you lots of strength for the coming time.
Right now I don't have sooo much stash... One big bag full, which will become a motif blanket someday... (That doesn't count, it's already planned), some yarn for amigurumi and 2 gradient cakes. Then just a tiny bit of leftovers. (Those don't count either) That's it.
Yesterday I bought 4 skeins at the local yarn shop :) (I'm proud, I can buy small quantities!) And my gradient-cake shopping cart is full too! The order will still go out today :)
It's always such a dilemma: When I have a lot of stash, I feel bad because I never have what I need anyway and I buy for specific projects... When I have little stash, I feel bad too... Because then I'm not flexible...
I need to find a middle ground :D
I’m in a similar boat to Heike. I did a little tidying up too, and that’s when I really realized just how much yarn I’ve accumulated. Oh my gosh!!! I’d rather not even know how many kilos that is. :-)
That’s why I’ve decided to take a break from buying more for now and turn some of it into beautiful things. I’ve got plenty of orders and plenty of ideas, too. But I’d need at least one more life right now to get it all done. Phew...
It’s definitely fun to keep my needles busy every spare minute.
I’m so excited about my new additions! Over the last few days, some absolutely wonderful yarn—hand-dyed, colorful, thick and thin, and solid-colored treasures—has found its way into my collection!! After all, there’s still room in the yarn closet (if you squeeze it a bit) ;-)) I’m already super excited to start designing and knitting, and of course I’d love to cast on and try everything out right away, but I’ve sternly ordered myself to practice “discipline and organization” and will take it one project at a time (hahaha, as if anyone believes that…).
Warm regards from the yarn mountain,
Annette
Your posts gave me the idea to take a look at my yarn stash. I store most of it in a closet,
but also on shelves.
I knew I had a lot of yarn, but I really didn’t expect this much.
I’m not a designer and I don’t have a store, but I think I’m going a little crazy.
I almost don’t dare admit how much yarn I have. According to my calculations, I’ve come up with about 68 kg.
I’ll be knitting and crocheting for a long time to get through it all, and I certainly won’t be buying any more anytime soon.
Marion
Oh, wow, Marion, 68 kg—that’s quite a yarn stash!!
That’s pure wealth!
I was almost going to say “enviable”... but (oh, what a shock this evening!) if I were to weigh my yarn right now, I’d probably end up—roughly speaking—with about 50–60 kg as well.
I can’t compete with your mountains of yarn. My yarn hangs in shopping bags by the door. That’s three bags, and the rest is in a little corner of the closet.
After Christmas, I really need to go on another yarn diet—this time for a longer period! Right now, I’m definitely buying too much, even if it’s just single skeins… I just don’t have the right yarn here and there for the gift I’m planning—I’m sure you all know how that goes!
My yarn stash hasn’t changed. I have tons of it, but as always, the specific type I want to use right now isn’t there. So I’ll have to buy some more.
During my next “yarn diet,” I’ll try to be very brave, not order anything, and really just use up what I have stored at home.
