I'm having trouble crocheting the body:

Round 30 36 single crochets
Round 31 13 single crochets, (increase in single crochet) 6x, 11 single crochets (42 stitches)
Round 32 42 single crochets
Round 33 13 single crochets (increase, 2 single crochets) 6x, 11 single crochets (48 stitches)

I’m stuck on rounds 31 and 33—I just can’t seem to get the higher stitch count, because 13 single crochets + 6 increases = 12 single crochets + 11 single crochets, which gives me 36 stitches instead of 42. The same thing happens on round 33.

Maybe someone can help me. Thank you very much.

"Doubled stitches" means that you crochet 2 sc into 1 stitch each time, so:
13 sc, then 6 times crochet 2 sc into 1 stitch (that’s 12 stitches), and then another 11 sc. That gives you 36 stitches.

That’s right, unfortunately I’d already got that far, but in that round, the existing 36 stitches are supposed to become 42, and I don’t understand that.

Hi,
in Round 30 you have 36 stitches.
In Round 31, you’re supposed to double 6 of the 36 stitches. So, 6 stitches are added to the 36 stitches from the previous round, resulting in 42 stitches at the end of Round 31.

The same applies to Round 33, where 6 stitches from the previous round (= Round 32) are doubled.

I have an idea:

Rnd. 31 -, 13 sc,  ( then 6 x  2 sc in 1 st, 1 sc,) makes 18 stitches - then 11 more stitches at the end
At the end, 36 st for this rnd,

Rnd. 33-  13 sc -(  then 6X  2 sc in 1 st,  2 sc ) makes  24 stitches - 11 more single crochets -
At the end, 48 stitches for this rnd.

Give it a try,  but you could also ask the author.

Best, Marion

Of course, there are 42 stitches at the end of Round 31—I just made a typo.

Hi Sighilt,

I sent you a message. Sorry for the late reply, but I’m still working full-time during the day. I hope my message helps you. If not, feel free to contact me again.

Best regards, Doreen

One of my first patterns, and I admit I didn’t write it down very well. Today, I’d describe it in a bit more detail.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll definitely have to improve that soon.

Hi!
I’m working on Paulchen from the Amigurumi magazine. When I crochet exactly according to the pattern, the hump on the back ends up on the left side of the body instead of at the top of the back?! Do you have any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Hi, I’m having the same problem—I can’t get past rows 31 and 33, and the body looks really weird:(. Can someone explain this to me again? Thanks
