Making Your Own Bobbel Yarn Cakes

Good morning,
I hope I can ask my questions here.
I’ve read here that you can make Bobbels yourself too.
My question is about exactly how that works.
If I buy a large cone, do I first have to wind it onto 3 small cones? (If I want a 3-strand Bobbel.)
Or is a large cone already 3-strand?
Where do you buy the cones?

I’d really appreciate any tips.

Steffi

Cones are always single-strand.
So you’d first have to wind them into three small balls in order to make a three-strand Bobbel from them.
If I ever feel like winding my own, my source would be the same one I use for ready-made Bobbels:

Thanks for the tips.
I’ll have to think carefully about whether I want to try this. The cones are really expensive, and my budget won’t stretch that far.

Sorry.

I probably should have cleaned my glasses first.

Kind regards, Sylvia

Hihi, no problem, Sylvia,

I changed my username a little.

Can you also use cones of overlock thread? Or is overlock thread different?
There are so many different thicknesses, and that confuses me.
Overlock threads are 100% polyester. Has anyone tried this before?

Hi Steffi

I don’t know anything about making Bobbels myself either. But I’d just give it a try.

Best wishes, Sylvia
P.S. Just make sure the yarns you’re combining are the same thickness. Otherwise, it’ll look weird. :-)
