Looking for a pattern that matches the yarn I have

Hi, I have 300 g of cotton yarn with a length of 115 m per 50 g, which I need to turn into something crocheted by the first Sunday of Advent. I’m having a hard time finding a pattern for anything that matches this length and amount of yarn. Are there any tips on how to find something suitable?

Hi,

I don’t find that easy either. Sometimes you can find what you’re looking for by entering the brand name in the search, but it doesn’t always work. I’d try entering “Catania” on a whim—it’s a pretty popular cotton yarn ;-) Otherwise, you could just search for “cotton,” but that’ll probably bring up a lot more results… Does it really have to be that exact? What happens if you have some left over?

Hi, I just entered “115 m” into the search bar above, and it brought up quite a few patterns with that yardage. Try that—maybe you’ll find something you like.

Maybe CP can offer a tip on whether you can narrow down the selection even further from there.

Good luck!

Good morning!

Is it different colors or just one?
Are you planning to make small items or a variety of things?

Why not make an Advent calendar out of little pouches, for example?
In that case, the exact yardage isn’t quite as important.

Best regards

Thank you very much for your tips. It is a "creative game" in which people who generally do not know each other are paired by lot. You then send your own yarn to your assigned partner and get it back as something knitted or crocheted.
I now have 6 balls of "Jes Collection Klassik," 50 g each, 100% cotton, 4 in turquoise and 2 in dark berry, and unfortunately I am completely uncreative.
I have my assigned partner's dress size, shoe size, head size, and glove size; apart from that I know nothing about her.
Of course, it would be nice to use up the yarn. But there should not be too much left over either. Fortunately, some patterns do say how much yarn you need. But many do not. It can be many things, or just 1 item, that does not matter.

Given the yardage, it might be better to knit something. Or is crocheting a must, or do you know how to knit?
I could definitely see you making a shawl where you can use both colors.
I think the idea itself is very interesting.
I’m curious to see what you end up making with the yarn. Please keep us posted. :-)

Unfortunately, I can’t knit—or rather, it’s been a loooong time since I last did.... :-)

Okay... How about a table runner or a placemat?

A mesh shirt (with “large” holes) should actually be possible with that. Or how about a crocheted bag?

There are also some nice crocheted shawls you can make with that amount of yarn. Or a cowl? A hat and gloves can be made of cotton too... hmm... or a backpack?

Maybe it would help to know the clothing size, so you can see if the amount of yarn is enough...

She’s a size 36/38. I’d already found a mesh shirt pattern, but ruled it out (because it’s see-through).

But, as I said above: The question is actually (in general, but here specifically): How do I find patterns that match a specific amount of yarn with a specific yardage? Are there any tips?

[Right now I’m considering a “shawl,” “bolero,” or “arm warmers.” ;-) ]
