Beginner’s Question About Bobbel Yarn: How Many Strands?

Hi everyone,

I’m afraid I’m really not sure when to choose 3 strands or 4 strands. The difference in which needle or hook size to use isn’t that huge, from what I’ve read. Please fill me in on the secrets of Bobbel yarn ;-)

I use 3-ply when I want to make thinner projects.
The more strands, the thicker the work will be.

I work 3-ply with needle size 2 - 3 (depending on how loose I want it to be).
4-ply with 3 - 4.

If there are more strands, more colors can be brought into play.
Which of course also works if the Bobbel is an appropriate size.

As CreatOwl already wrote - the more strands, the thicker the crocheted piece becomes.
3 strands are well suited for lace shawls, 4 strands for scarves or clothing as well. 
I usually choose the hook size according to the number of strands.
With 3 strands I use 3–3.5, with 4 strands hook size 4.
But since everyone crochets differently, you'll just have to try it yourself.
