UFO Projects

So, I have another question: What are UFO projects? I'm a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, etc., but apparently it has nothing to do with that.
Greetings, Klaus

Hi Klaus,
UFO = unfinished project = a project that’s been sitting in the yarn basket for weeks or months, waiting to be finished.

Thanks—we’ve got a few of those lying around here;)

Actually, it means UnFinished Object, hence the abbreviation UFO :-)

We have “UFO Project Weeks” here on the forum.
The next one is from October 16 to 23.
Anyone who finishes a UFO during that week can call themselves the UFO King or UFO Queen.

Thanks, Inna.
I thought someone had been a little creative with the spelling of “UFO,” but it doesn’t change the result.

No, but everything has to be in order :-D.

Exactly. :-) And please make sure to line up the knitting needles and the printed patterns parallel to the edge of the table, too. ;)

So: “UFO project” isn’t quite correct—it should really be called a “UFO completion project,” since they usually come about without being planned. So much for “everything must be in order” (at least in the forum!).

Since we’re on the subject of the correct terminology:
UFO originally comes from English and stands for “Unfinished Object.” ;-))))
By the way, WIP stands for “Work in Progress,” meaning a work (or project) that’s still in progress.
FO is the opposite of UFO—it stands for “Finished Object,” or a completed object.

What other abbreviations can you think of?

In my case, the following "ladies and gentlemen" are all in the mix:

 PiA  Project in Action
WIM  what I’ll make
KEN  won’t work anyway

Kind regards,
Marlies

You guys are funny — I’m cracking up! :-) :-) :-)

 PiA  project in progress
WIM  I want to make it
KEN  won’t work anyway

Marlies, I’ll remember that too. So I have a PiA with me on vacation, and WIM is coming along too.
And I ran into KEN today too ... at Traudelina’s shop. That’s the one with the wool diet..... grin.

@Mowi
You were at Traudi's?
Unfortunately, during my vacation I only had a brief moment again for a visit to Traudi.
I would have liked to stay longer...

Do you live nearby?

Yes, Michaela, I was at her place yesterday and today. We’re in town with the RV.
The shop is sooo tempting. ;-)

I live about 100 km away. However, it’s about a 2-hour drive on state highways.
From now on, I’m sure I’ll be here for a few days more often, because the area is gorgeous. There’s still sooo much to see.

Best regards
Monika

Oh man... I envy you. I did have a 10-day vacation in Bavaria (Unterwössen), but 4 days went down the drain because I got sick.... :-(
I hope you have a wonderful time.

Hi Marlies, I like your abbreviations—it doesn’t always have to be in English!

Looks like I really set something off; all the posts are pretty funny. No matter how it’s written, I’ve understood what a UFO is: an Underdeveloped Yarn Object that can evolve into a Work in Progress. In my case, all I’ll say is Wiv but Ken, so üif then kds ;)

Thanks, Michaela! Yes, I’m very grateful to live here and to be able to take day trips in these beautiful surroundings.

Have a great time, too! .-)

Hey, Klaus, you really are creative.

You’ll surely solve this riddle for us, right:
In my case, I’ll just say Wiv but Ken, so üif then kds ;)

I would say: " In my case, I just say I want to try, but it probably won't work anyway, so I'm practicing diligently, then it'll surely work out!" Right?

Wow, true. That’s exactly what I wanted to say ;)

Hi Klaus,
I recognize that big fish in your avatar from my vacation in Hirtshals. Sunfish really are impressive.

Best regards, Petra

Wow, Ruth, you’re so creative! I wouldn’t have thought of that.
It definitely makes sense. :-)
