How many “pieces” do you have in your closet?

I once counted my hand-knitted and crocheted sweaters and cardigans that are lying in the closet.

Here’s my inventory list: 83 pieces
Long-sleeve sweaters: 29
3/4-sleeve sweaters: 5
Short-sleeve sweaters: 13
Tops: 17
Vests: 19
At the moment I still have a few UFOs in progress, so the list will get even longer.

I also still have scarves, shawls, and hats.

I’m curious—how many “pieces” are lying around at your place?

I have

• 2 crocheted sweaters
• 10 triangular shawls
• 1 knitted skirt
• 1 crocheted dress
• 3 crocheted scarves / dragon tails
• 2 crocheted hats

off the top of my head.

That’s an easy one for me: 2
a soul warmer and a triangular shawl.

I always give everything away, and whenever I make something for myself, my mom or someone else eventually comes along and says, “Ooohhh… I’d like that too…” and just like that, it’s gone ;-)

Mine is also quite modest:
5 scarves. A sweater I’ve never worn, but I don’t want to get rid of it either.

In my closet, I have:
3 crocheted sweaters
4 knitted sweaters
1 knitted shirt
2 crocheted tunic shirts
3 crocheted jackets
1 crocheted triangular shawl, countless scarves and hats
3 pairs of crocheted slippers
3 pairs of crocheted socks

I’m in a similar situation to Tina: Some things leave the house with visitors before they ever get to see the inside of the closet....

I have

3 crocheted vests
1 knitted jacket
1 knitted dress
1 crocheted dress
1 crocheted poncho
1 crocheted summer top
1 knitted sweater


I’d love to have more, but I usually make things for others. Or I’m like Tina: when I wear something, someone comes along and says, “Sooo pretty, I’d love one too...”

I’d still like a nice long knitted skirt. But in time, there’ll be a skirt....

Oh, I’ll have to think hard about that...

• 4 sweaters
• 7 scarves/tubular scarves
• 5 hats
• 3 ponchos

I’ve also given away quite a few things, including some shawls, scarves, a jacket, and various hats.

Countless—I can tell you there are 8 large boxes. And then I still have quite a few things in my closet that I currently wear.

The more I read from you about what’s filling your closets, the more I think, “Oh, I made that too at some point.”

So here’s what you’ll find in my closet:
2 shawls,
4 pillows,
15 makeup remover wipes
1 infinity scarf from 2017

Older than 10 years:
1 dress, 1 scarf
1 sleeveless cardigan
3 summer sweaters
1 slipover
2 summer tops

Older than 15 years:
1 cardigan, 1 slipover

From what I read, it seems you feel the same way I do.

That’s why I have so many "works" in my closet—because I don’t want to part with them. Some of them really are many years old now, but actually still beautiful. I’ve even unraveled pieces and made something new from them again.

In my closet, I only have my knitted sweaters — 5 in total ;-)

A pitiful remnant, since my daughters regularly go through them to see what fits them.

Luckily, you didn’t ask about little animals ^^

That’s a good idea, to see what’s still around.
Here’s what I found:
12 scarves, 4 infinity scarves, 2 Möbius scarves, all knitted
1 crocheted triangular shawl (ends not yet woven in)
3 knitted hats
2 pairs of knitted gloves
3 wrist warmers + 1 in progress
1 pair of socks, 2 pairs of Pilates socks, 1 pair of bed socks
1 bed jacket (ancient!)
2 sweaters + 1 UFO (one more than 40 years old!!!)
1 slipover, also from the Stone Age
2 jackets, both not quite finished
countless crocheted hanger covers

Then there are household items too, such as 3 knitted cushions, 2 crocheted curtains, dishcloths, 3 crocheted nets, 1 e-reader cover and 1 small handbag. I carry the Japanese knot bag with my current craft project everywhere I go.

I also still have a few sewn items:
1 pair of trousers, 1 culotte skirt
2 tops, 1 blouse
1 cocktail dress from 1996, worn once to my daughter’s wedding.
