A little Lennox the Lion is an absolute must-have in any zoo!

You should be able to do the following
  • Crochet single crochet stitches in continuous rounds
  • Create a magic ring
  • Slip stitches
  • Sew on the individual pieces
  • So, general basic crochet skills
Scope: 25 pages of crochet pattern with lots of pictures for every step. I won't leave you on your own when sewing the individual pieces together, either.
Difficulty level: Easy, but you should have worked in continuous rounds before. What you need:
  • Approx. 20g yarn (Schoeller Stahl Zimba medium in color 0218) in the color you want your lion to be. The yarn should be suitable for a 3mm crochet hook (the Schoeller Stahl yarn recommends a 3.5mm hook, but it can be crocheted very well with a 3mm hook)
  • Approx. 20g yarn strands for the lion's mane (I used eyelash yarn, but it also works great with regular leftover yarn).
  • White leftover yarn suitable for a 2mm crochet hook
  • Brown yarn strands for the nose
  • Safety eyes (8 mm)
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors, darning needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Straight pins to hold the individual limbs in place before sewing them together

Even the full-grown lions Lenny and Leana fit perfectly in a zoo

What you’ll need:
  • Approx. 60g of yarn in yellow/beige or orange, depending on what color you want your lions to be. My boy is made from Schoeller Stahl’s Zimba Medium in color 0218. The girl is made from Schoeller Stahl’s Zimba Medium in color 0022. The yarn recommends using a 3.5mm crochet hook, but I crocheted with a 3mm hook.
  • Leftover white yarn for the cheeks and the belly. This leftover yarn should also be suitable for a 3mm hook
  • Approx. 20 g of yarn for the mane; I used “fringe yarn” from the Schachenmayr “Brazilia” line, color 1027, lot 2206.
  • Yarn for the nose and mouth, as well as a thin black thread for the eyebrows and the dots on the cheeks.
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • stuffing
  • Darning needle and scissors
  • 10mm safety eyes
  • Pins to hold the limbs in place while sewing them on
  • stitch marker
A 27-page detailed crochet pattern with plenty of pictures showing everything step by step. I won’t leave you in the lurch when it comes to sewing the individual pieces together, either!
Difficulty level: Easy, suitable for beginners. However, you should already have experience working in spiral rounds and have a basic understanding of crochet.

Lady flamingo Lily’s pink shines brightly even from a distance through the zoo fence. Crochet this enchanting, graceful bird from a few leftovers of pink yarn, some wire, and stuffing.
It’s really easy. Only making the feet is a bit “fiddly,” since you have to crochet in rounds with just a few stitches.
You can find the pattern here!

You’ll get three fun zoo residents with this pattern! The lion, hippo, and monkey finger puppets are sure to lift your spirits and help pass the time on boring car rides. They’ll keep telling you new adventures from the jungle.
All 3 finger puppets are crocheted using only leftover yarn and single crochet stitches. Click here for the pattern!

Just yesterday I was at the zoo and admired, among other animals, the lions and giraffes. Unfortunately, we don’t have any rhinos at Hagenbeck. Luckily, things are different in my knitted zoo: there’s a rhino here too! My three “Africans” are the best of friends! If you’d like to knit one of the three (or even all three), you can find more information and the patterns here:
