Do you start your winter crafts as early as summer? Or…

are you like me? Every year, I resolve to start knitting a nice, warm cardigan for myself in the summer so I can wear it in the fall. Every year, I keep putting it off until it’s too late. Three months later, I get annoyed with myself ☺

How do you motivate yourselves to pull out the thick needles and cozy yarn—while wearing a T-shirt with your feet in cool, wet water—to crochet or knit a scarf, hat, or warm jacket?

Och, es gibt im Sommer doch genug kühle Tage..  Wir schimpfen doch jedes Jahr während der Schlechtwetterperioden! Aber auch an den lauen Abenden, wenn es noch lange hell ist kann man draußen auf dem Balkon oder der Terrasse prima handarbeiten.

I haven’t gotten used to working ahead of the season yet.

Ganz genau so geht's mir auch. Jedes Jahr nehme ich mir das vor, aber dann wird es heiß, und ich fange irgendetwas leichtes, baumwolliges oder sockenwolliges an. Jetzt wäre es zwar wieder kühler, dafür habe ich während der Hitzewelle ein leichtes Tuch angefangen (eigentlich zwei...), die ich jetzt fertigstellen will. Mützen gehen noch eher im Sommer, die liegen nicht so schwer in der Hand.

Of course, you can also work according to the season—that is, start on the warm jacket in winter. Then the finished piece won’t be ready until winter is almost over. Hard to say. During the last few days when it wasn’t 34 degrees anymore, I was actually able to get quite a bit done. I struggle in the heat, and on the one hand I tend to work on smaller projects then, but it’s already July. And I think it’ll soon be September, October, and so on, and I still have sooooooo many ideas. My eternal struggle.

Ich erkenne mich da wieder. Leider bin ich auch eher so der Typ, der kuschelige warme Sachen im Winter arbeitet und Ostersachen zu Ostern und Sommersachen im Sommer. Bin immer damit fertig, sobald es vorbei ist.
Zur Zeit habe ich endlich meinen Frühlings-Türkranz fertig gemacht. Der wartet jetzt halt auf den nächsten Frühling.
Aber ich könnte mir auf meine Liste mit den guten Vorsätzen nehmen, das ich die Winterhaube für meine Freundin doch fertig mache, bevor der nächste Frühling kommt.....

Aber heute mache ich mal lieber die Rasselkatzen für die Tochter meiner Freundin. Da ist die Wolle dünner und das passt viel besser zu den Temperaturen.

Hi everyone! I feel exactly the same way as you do. With such beautiful weather, I just can’t seem to find the motivation to sit down and crochet (or knit) fall or winter items. I actually meant to start on a scarf a long time ago—one I saw in a magazine that came with a pattern. It’s a bit more challenging. But right now, I’m just not in the mood for it.

I hope you all continue to have fun with your crafts—whatever they may be—and come up with lots of lovely new ideas.
