How many crochet hooks and knitting needles do you own? :)

Let’s see who has the biggest needle collection :)

For me personally, it’s pretty manageable. I have a bamboo needle set with all the common sizes, and otherwise lots of individual ones. 

Maybe 20–25 in total. 

I also only own 2 knitting needles that someone once accidentally gave me, not knowing that crocheting isn’t knitting.

But maybe we have some real collectors here? Please show us what you’ve got :) 

Not enough :-) I mean, actually way too many, but I can never find them when I need them! In theory, they’re all in the same drawer. I don’t know where they always disappear to.

From Addi Swing to Knitpro Waves to Pony and Clover Amour—I have them all.
Since I crochet very tightly, which is good for amigurumi, I find the
Clover Amour to be the best. At least they last quite a while :)

I definitely have 50 regular crochet hooks and another 25 or so Tunisian hooks (with and without a cord). As for knitting needles, I’m sure I have about 20 sets of double-pointed needles and circular needles.

With the crochet hooks, it’s because I always have several projects “going” at the same time, and then I often need multiple hooks of the same size... Plus, I keep misplacing needles, or the little ones hide them from me… but every now and then they turn up again *laughs*.
And I sometimes like to switch between different types of needles, because for this project these feel better in my hands, or for that one, the others do…

When it comes to knitting needles—especially circular needles—I still haven’t found the perfect ones for me.
I really love working with my bamboo double-pointed needles, but with circular needles, I keep having problems at the transition point to the cable. Metal needles clatter too much for my taste, though... and I only knit from time to time (but then very intensely ;) )... somehow I don’t really have a reason to buy a really good (and possibly expensive) set of needles (but I’m open to suggestions *grin).

As for knitting needles, I have the metal Hiyahiya ones. I don’t know if they clatter loudly because I’m not that fast at knitting. But I think they’re great. They’re expensive, but I think they’ll last forever.  

I’ve never counted them, but I’d guess I have about 50 crochet hooks. That said, I usually only use the same ones—sizes 2 through 6—all from Prym. The Knit Pro ones aren’t bad either; all the others are just sitting around as decorations now ^^.
Sometimes it’s really unbelievable where I find crochet hooks I thought were lost, so I’m glad I always have enough spares on hand... haha

It’s a similar story with knitting needles—I have everything from circular needles to sets of double-pointed needles. But for the past few years, I’ve been doing nothing but crocheting.

Right now, I own a Knitpro set consisting of

• 4 cables
• 8 needle tips
• connectors to extend the cables if needed

I also have 3 additional cables and 4 needle tips—also from Knitpro.

I have about 5 sets of double-pointed needles.
One of them is made of bamboo.

I have 3 cable needles for both thinner and thicker yarn.

As for crochet hooks, sizes 2 to 3.5 are particularly well-represented.
Otherwise, they range from 0.6 (?) to 10.
I also have Tunisian crochet hooks with cables, in sizes 3 through 10.

And let’s not forget my double-ended crochet hooks,
ranging from 3 to 8. For example, one hook has sizes 3 and 3.5 on a single needle.

So when it comes to crochet hooks, I only have about 5.

But knitting needles—oh boy—I have around 70 of those.

I have to admit, I’ve lost track. ;-)
I have quite a few needles and hooks, both knitting and crochet. 
But in fact I only use a few of them. For crochet, I have 3 favorite hooks in the sizes I need most often, and for knitting I have my Hiya-Hiyas.

I just counted the needles I came across:

• 29 crochet hooks
• 10 Tunisian crochet hooks with long cords
• 6 sets of double-pointed needles
• 2 thin cable needles
• 5 thick cable needles
• as well as the Knit Pro needle tips and cables mentioned in the other post.

I have 7 crochet hooks with wooden handles - those are my favorites

16 with plastic handles

Knitting needles: 
Oh, I'm definitely not counting those ;-) 
There's a 70 x 70 cm drawer full of them. It includes circular knitting needles from 30 cm to 150 cm long, in sizes 2 to 8.... the ones I need most in multiple copies

During the last move, it was in any case a banana box full of needles, scissors, etc.

I have about 20 crochet hooks made of all sorts of materials—after all, you can’t work every project with just one type. Some of the crochet hooks are over 35 years old—they’re from my handkerchief lace days (everything from sizes 0.6 and 0.75 upward); I have about 50 knitting needles, though I count a set of double-pointed needles as one; right now I’m working with Symphony needles with the interchangeable cable—they’re absolutely fantastic!

I have way too many—plastic, wood, bamboo, and metal. 100 aren’t enough!

I finally found “my” crochet hooks: the Tulip Etimo. They’re not exactly cheap, but they’re worth the investment. I got the tip from Zhaya.

I just counted... 50 in all kinds of materials—acrylic, metal, bamboo, with grips, without grips... even lit ones... and then another set from 0.75 to 6.0, so I’d say about 80 in total. And about 5 knitting needles.

I have countless ones. Long, short, medium-length, and in almost every size—circular needles, sets of double-pointed needles, crochet hooks, and Tunisian crochet hooks. And I’ve used—and continue to use—them all time and time again...

Well, I just counted my crochet hooks too—there are about 35 of them (ranging from very thin ones—for edging handkerchiefs—to size 6.0). I have about 10 knitting needles from back when I used to knit (circular needles and those long straight knitting needles—one plastic and several wooden ones—a bit thicker).

Definitely (too) many—especially knitting needles! Since I don’t have a great organization system, whenever I start a new project, I have to go on a big hunt for the right circular needles, needle tips and cables, or a set of double-pointed needles in the right size—which is especially tedious in the latter case, since you can’t tell the size at a glance. Do you have any tips for keeping things more organized?

Gee, and I thought I had a lot, but reading what’s here… lol

I knit almost exclusively with the KnitPro cable system—I have about 25 tips and 15 cables plus connectors. As for double-pointed needles, I’ve mostly used bamboo so far, but I recently bought a set of Prym Ergonomic ones: they took some getting used to at first, but now they’re aaaawesome—I want more of them!

I only have about 10 crochet hooks—I’ve only recently started crocheting more again, definitely inspired by your great patterns and projects here. I also have Tunisian hooks and a hairpin lace fork (yeah, I want to work with that again sometime)

And countless metal straight needles and circular needles that I still have from way back or that people have given me (“Hey, you knit, don’t you?”). 

All in all, there are too many, and I even have those “phantom needles”—the ones I know exist but never seem to show up :-)

P.S. And no, I don’t have a working organization system either—and I don’t even want one. Rummaging through my yarn and needle stash is part of the ritual I wouldn’t want to miss :-)

I used the day right away to sort all my needles.
I have:
81 circular knitting needles, 31 of them for lace-knit tablecloths
30 sets of double-pointed needles and
71 crochet hooks

No one needs that many, but I just can’t throw things like that away

Wow, Anngret, no, you can’t just throw them away either.
I’d actually thought about attaching all my old metal needles to a
lampshade and hanging it over the table in my study.

I can’t throw anything away either. 55 crochet hooks, 12 Tunisian hooks, 27 circular needles, 26 sets of double-pointed needles.
It really adds up. Just wait until you’re 77 years old!

I haven’t counted them—there are too many—and I also have a huge stash of unused needles just in case. I have crochet hooks ranging from size 0.75 to 20, plus Tunisian hooks and knitting needles. I also have a ton of embroidery needles. 

So, I decided I wanted to know a little more precisely after all and counted my crochet hooks at least once (counting knitting needles would be too complicated!): I have 52 of them, ranging in size from 0.6 to 10, plus two Tunisian hooks, one of which has a cord. I’m going to have to pare down that collection a bit soon!
