This isn’t a direct crochet tip, just a very simple tip about yarn.

I always wind the yarn into balls—that way, it unwinds more smoothly when I’m crocheting or knitting.

Almost invisible decreases:

To make decreases (e.g., on a character’s head) almost invisible, simply pick up only the
front loop of each of the two stitches you’re joining onto the hook.

There are now 3 loops on the hook. Pick up the yarn and pull it through only two loops on the hook. There are now 2 loops on the hook. Then pick up the yarn again and pull it through the remaining 2 loops on the hook. Then continue crocheting as described in the pattern.

Give it a try! I hope you have great success with it!

Best regards

Danie

I agree, and I’d like to add: when unwinding the yarn, you’ll immediately notice if there are any knots in it. This is especially important if you don’t want to have to change threads in the middle of a lace pattern row.

To crochet or knit with beads, you first need to thread the beads onto the yarn. Here’s a little trick to make that really easy:

Thread a piece of sewing thread through a thin sewing needle, fold it in half, and tie a knot. Now place the crochet yarn in the loop, pick up the beads with the needle, and slide them over the thread onto the yarn.

Have fun trying it out!

Best regards
Elke

There are crochet hooks with a small point at the “head” of the hook and others that are rounded there.
Especially with unplied or thick yarn, you should be careful not to use one with a point, because this point often pierces through the individual strands of the yarn and creates unattractive stitch definition.
With thin and/or plied yarn, it’s not as important—it just comes down to what feels more comfortable for you. However, it can be helpful to choose a hook with a point here, especially when working slip stitches (sl st) or single crochet (sc) and/or crocheting very tightly.

To keep the rows straight, I insert the hook one loop lower when working the last stitch.

If you’re crocheting a long row, it can be helpful to place a marker every 20 stitches, for example.
Provided you’re working only the same stitch throughout.
This makes it easy to quickly check whether you’ve crocheted one stitch too many or too few.

This also applies to fluffy yarn. If you place a marker every few stitches, it’s easier to keep track of where you are.

To avoid having to weave in the ends when crocheting with multiple colors, you can work the beginning of the new color into the last 8–10 stitches before the color change.

Similarly, you can work the end of the yarn for the color you no longer need right into the stitches.

Addendum:
For a smooth transition to the next color, complete the last stitch with the new color already.

Since dark yarn is especially tricky to crochet with—because the stitches are harder to see—work some dental floss into the project.

You can remove it at the end.

If a gauge is specified, you should make a gauge swatch—especially for clothing—to avoid frustration if the finished piece doesn’t fit.
