Mother’s Day 2017: Sunday, May 14
Father’s Day 2017: Thursday, May 25 / “Ascension Day”

Dear users, dear authors,
the last-minute window for Mother’s Day crafts has actually already passed. Now we need quick and beginner-friendly patterns using leftover yarn. You’ll find them here in this thread. Of course, we also have Father’s Day patterns. Good luck.

@Authors,
this is a promotional thread for all authors. Please post only patterns here that are truly quick for beginners to complete. 2–3 patterns per author are sufficient. Please link directly to the specific pattern—do not include a general shop link. Be sure to include the link, an image, material information, technique details, difficulty level, and any special features of the pattern.

Crochet little and large hearts as keychains
Go directly to the crochet pattern here

Crochet the little and large hearts and give them as a gift for Mother’s or Father’s Day... or use them as a pretty keychain or bag charm. They are also perfect as decoration! The small heart is 5 cm tall and 5 cm wide at the widest point. The large heart is approx. 6 cm tall and approx. 7 cm wide at the widest point. What you need:
  • A 3 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn or wool suitable for a 3 mm crochet hook. In the photos in the pattern, I used 100% cotton in the colors dusky pink and burgundy. But you can also use other yarn.
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors and a darning needle
  • The hearts are crocheted in continuous rounds, which means you don’t have to close the rounds with a slip stitch or begin with a turning chain. You always continue directly with single crochet stitches. The hearts are crocheted entirely with single crochet stitches.
Scope: 9 illustrated pages of instructions
Difficulty level: Easy

A bookmark is quick to knit; you'll be finished in an hour. All you need is some leftover cotton yarn and knitting needles (they do need to be double-pointed needles, at least for the cord at the beginning).
The pattern is written out row by row, and there is also a knitting chart.

This way to the pattern.

Crochet Möbius Collar 1-2-3-4

(To purchase/download, please click the image)

This collar wonderfully jazzes up sweaters and shirts.

It is crocheted from approx. 60 g of a merino yarn with a yardage of 50 g – 160 m and needle size 3 – 4 (here with a 3.5 mm crochet hook) and is quickly finished in one afternoon. Beginners should allow themselves a little more crochet time.

Other yarns with a matching hook size can also be used. In my opinion, however, the pattern shows up better in finer yarns.

The Möbius technique in crochet is considerably easier than in knitting.

For the illustrated PDF pattern basic crochet skills are enough (chain stitches, single crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch). Link tips for learning to crochet are included.

Gift Jars Crocheted in No Time

You can turn leftover yarn and old jars into a very personal Mother’s Day gift.
Just grab a few leftover yarn scraps, your crochet hook, and in no time you’ll conjure up a gift for the “best mom in the world”; then fill it with something personal (e.g., a voucher, chocolates, or make some jam).

The pattern is written so that the size of the lids doesn’t matter, and even beginners can manage it.

If you still need a little something for Mother’s Day, this pretty heart pendant is the perfect choice.
As a keychain or bag charm, it’s quickly made from leftover yarn and will delight any mother’s heart.

For the heart you’ll need:

  • beads (make sure the loops are wide enough for the yarn to fit through)
  • a little stuffing
  • crochet hook size 3.0 mm
  • pins for attaching the wings to the heart
  • sewing needle for weaving in the ends and sewing on the wings
  • white sewing thread
  • scissors
Required skills:

  • single crochet stitches
  • chain stitches
  • double crochet stitches

Using the yarn mentioned above, the heart will be approx. 9 cm high (without loop and bead pendant) and approx. 16 cm wide.

The pattern is 9 pages long and includes a detailed photo tutorial for every row as well as charts (crochet charts).

Difficulty level: easy.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve given away a lot of homemade dish sponges, and they’ve been a huge hit. They clean great, and the finished sponges last a long time, too. A quick gift, especially for Mother’s Day—my unicorn sponge made with Creative Bubble yarn from rico design.
It’s easy for beginners to make, comes with a pattern that explains every row and round, and will awaken the fairy or princess in you while you’re doing the dishes. It really works! ;-)

Warning: Highly addictive!

T
he cat....

The dog....

A gift for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day that you can enjoy for a long time. The charms are quick to make and ideal for using up leftover yarn in a cute way.
For all cat fans and dog lovers. As a keychain or bag charm.
10–20 g leftover wool/yarn, the matching crochet hook (2–3), a little stuffing, and, if you like, two small eyes if you don’t want to embroider them. Chain stitches, single crochet, increases and decreases. Then the charm is as good as done :-) Anyone who has crocheted occasionally will enjoy making the cat and/or the dog.

Have fun crocheting :-)

But these wonderful tulips really are “last minute” ♥
It doesn’t have to be a whole bouquet—a single tulip that won’t wilt will make the breakfast table look much friendlier right away :-)
So grab your crochet hook and quickly crochet a little flower for Mom or Dad!

Tulip crochet pattern

You will need:
  • per tulip, about 10 g green cotton yarn and about 7 to 8 g in the color of your choice for the blossom (cotton with 125 m/50 g, e.g., Catania)
  • crochet hook size 2.0
  • sewing needle, scissors, and a little stuffing
  • for reinforcing the stem: pipe cleaners, craft wire, shish kebab skewer (wooden skewer) ...
