What kind of yarn, and other details...

I just wanted to get something off my chest again—I wrote a while back that I often find many patterns don’t specify which yarn to use, For example, I have a lot of sock yarn, and I prefer to knit and crochet with that weight. I no longer buy patterns if I don’t know what yarn is used. I’d also appreciate it if you could tell whether, say, a sweater is worked from the top down or the bottom up—just like with shawls, which I prefer to work sideways, etc...
This is just a suggestion—I still see a lot of patterns where this information isn’t included… I suppose I could ask, but that would just create more work for you designers ;-)
