Upcycling means creating something new and beautiful from seemingly useless items. I’d like to show you an example: Here you can see ordinary small jam jars that would otherwise have ended up in the glass recycling bin. But mine have been given a new lease of life as lanterns. For crocheting, you can use thick crochet yarn or jute twine. You’ll find all the details in the free crochet pattern for the lantern.

I hope you enjoy it. Best wishes — Ina

I have another example of using up leftovers from things that seem useless. This time it’s about my leftover yarn/felting wool scraps. All little strands and tiny scraps that aren’t really enough for anything anymore. BUT: You can make a great cat toy ball from them. Exactly how to do it is explained in the free pattern.
I hope you enjoy it. Best wishes - Ina

Great idea. I’m going to try this out right away with the tealight holder. Since Easter is just around the corner, I’ll fill the jar with chocolate eggs as a little gift. Thank you very much.

Here I have a great upcycling DIY pattern for you. All you need is some leftover yarn and a large empty yogurt jar, and you can create a lovely lantern that you can give as a gift or, of course, keep for yourself.

You can easily crochet the lantern in your favorite colors, so you’ll always have a nice little gift on hand. With a tea light inside, it creates a cozy atmosphere during the Christmas season, on a long, relaxing summer evening on the patio, in the living room, in the hallway, as a decoration for the guest bathroom, and so on...

The pattern is easy for beginners to follow, as it includes plenty of pictures and detailed step-by-step instructions.

You can find all additional information—such as the required stitches, the materials used, and the crochet pattern—here: Crochet Pattern: Crocheted Jars "Light Magic"
