Weddings and Crafts (No Advertising Thread)

Dear users, dear authors,
when it comes to weddings, what kinds of things can you make, craft, or create yourself? Let me know.

A friend of my daughter’s bought special cushions for the grandmothers and great-aunts because she wanted everyone to be comfortable, cozy, and at ease at the celebration. Some beautiful crocheted chair cushions with a granny square pattern would be perfect for that.

Flowers are always a good idea, of course—in all variations: as hair accessories, for table decorations, or some people may even like a “long-lasting” bridal bouquet made of crocheted flowers 

And of course it’s not only the bride who has to look beautiful, but also the guests, the flower girls, and even the bridesmaids are allowed to look pretty ;-) So they all need hair accessories, little necklaces, embellishments on their dresses ... and so on and so on ;-)

And I once saw this too: the invitations all had a very delicate crocheted flower on the front (I admit, the wedding was more of a small gathering, so that’s definitely doable) ;-)

I made quite a few things myself for my wedding 1.5 years ago.
For the female guests, I sewed handkerchief pouches for tears of joy, on which I had embroidered our names and the date.
Since the church had ugly chair covers, I sewed two for us. Each chair cover had a pocket for tissues, a bow in the same color as the handkerchief pouches for tears of joy, and, of course, our names and the date on them.

For my mother, mother-in-law, and maid of honor, I sewed handkerchiefs out of very fine fabric, which I also embroidered with cross-stitch.

For Mom, it read: “Dear Mom, yesterday a girl, today a bride, tomorrow a wife, but forever your daughter.” For my mother-in-law: “Dear Uschi, today you’re not losing a son, but gaining a daughter.”

For my maid of honor: “Dear Maike, thank you so much for being by my side on this important day.”

And, of course, they also included the date and name.
  These handkerchiefs, in particular, caused a lot of tears.

I spent a long time working on all of this. But every hour was worth it. 

For my wedding, I crocheted a stole that matched my bridal dirndl.
In general, you can really top off your wedding dress with a beautiful shawl or stole. One of my shawls was even worn with a wedding dress. That was, of course, a very special joy for me. :-)
Unfortunately, we don’t have the tradition of bridesmaids here, otherwise we could dress them in shawls as well.
I could also really see crocheted hair accessories working well. I once saw a picture online of a wedding dress that was crocheted entirely by hand! Something like that would definitely be the highlight of the day! 

I made a lot of things myself for our wedding:
invitations, place cards, and boutonnieres.
I sewed my own wedding dress.
If you have enough time and patience, you could definitely make even more yourself...

P.S.: My maid of honor wore a dress made from the same sewing pattern, but without a hoop skirt...

All I can say is that what I’m reading here from you all is absolutely wonderful.

For my wedding, I only managed to make the invitations myself. I had absolutely no time beforehand with exams, pregnancy, and childbirth.

That said, if I ever manage to convince my husband to walk down the aisle with me in a church ceremony, I’ll be sure to get as many tips from you all as I can.

Oh, that’s beautiful! If only I could sew like that! So far I’ve only managed carnival costumes. With those, it’s not so bad if a seam is a little crooked ;-)

It’s not exactly perfectly sewn. But somehow that’s exactly why my dress fit so well—and suited our style, too :-)
