Knitted from sock yarn for 2.5 to 3 mm needles, this triangular shawl can be washed easily. Worn the other way round, it can also serve as a "dribble bib," since you can machine-wash it.
Then all you need is an appliqué or other embellishment, and you're ready to go.

Knitting pattern for a triangular shawl for newborns up to about 3 months

Winter Dream is a cozy triangular shawl made from Alpaca Fino. You’ll need 2 skeins of solid-colored yarn and 1 skein of multicolored yarn. Alpaca Fino is made from 100% alpaca, making it very cozy.
The shawl can also be knitted with Merino wool from Pascuali, making it suitable for year-round wear: 1 skein of Merino Baby 100 g (440 m) in a solid color, 1 skein of Merino Baby 50 g (220 m) in a multicolored colorway
Needle size 3.5
The shawl consists of several stitch patterns, which are described in detail, row by row. Individual patterns are also explained with a chart.

LaPuLi is knitted from left to right; increases are made on one side using kfb, and decreases are made regularly on the other side to form a triangle. I used Puro Lino by Lanartus, dyed by Gesa Drechsler (Buttjebeyy). You’ll need 3 skeins of 100g each, with 210m of yarn per skein.
The linen is light and summery, perfect for the cooler hours in the morning and evening.
This shawl is suitable for beginners, as it consists of knit stitches, purl stitches, and yarn overs.

Here I have a pattern for a beautiful triangular shawl. The pattern consists of 2 rows that are repeated over and over. The shawl is started on the long side, so the rows get shorter and shorter the longer you crochet.


The gray and pink shawl was crocheted using Schachenmayr Fashion Soft Mix, with 30% alpaca, 113 m / 25 g, hook size 5, and 130 g.

Of course, you can also crochet it with any other yarn, whether for winter or now for spring.

This triangular shawl with ruffles is slightly asymmetrical and looks especially good in gradient yarn! It’s knitted with size 3 circular needles;
the ruffles are knitted in as you go, so it’s finished as soon as you’re done knitting and doesn’t
need any crocheted or knitted edging afterward.

This pattern quickly becomes second nature, as they say. Made from cotton, the shawl is wonderful to wear in any season.

Basically, you can use any yarn you like with the appropriate hook size (according to the label) – the thinner, the more elegant. Size: as desired.

For the measurements shown here, approx. 70 cm x 162 cm, I used 350 g Schachenmayr Cotton Bamboo, 50 g – 120 m, hook/needle size according to the label 3 – 4, here a 4.0 mm crochet hook. I wouldn’t recommend thicker yarn for visual reasons. I decided not to block the shawl for myself, because then the curves of the shell pattern stand out better – but that’s a matter of taste.

These crochet skills are required:
chain stitches, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, front post double crochet (explained).

The PDF pattern includes images on 15 pages, but it is not a crochet course.

This triangular shawl is knitted from sock yarn. You need approx. 350–400 g. The shawl is knitted mainly in knit stitches with size 6 needles. It is started on the long side, so the stitches get fewer from row to row. You can choose the number of tassels yourself or leave them out entirely. Also suitable for beginners!

Mirabella—a dream of blue waves

Mirabella is a crocheted triangular shawl that starts in the center and can be easily adjusted in size.
The pattern includes an illustrated description (every step of the pattern is explained) and a short version without photos for printing. Mirabella is suitable for beginners, but basic crochet skills are required.

Ocean Beach is a crocheted triangular shawl that isn’t quite so pointed. The shorter color changes in the sock yarn create many different diamonds, which are what make this shawl so charming.
The pattern includes an illustrated description (each step is explained) and a short version without photos for printing. Ocean Beach is suitable for more advanced beginners; you should have a good grasp of the basics of crocheting.

Since yesterday, my shawl "But Snow White Fairer is than you" has been available here. It is a knitted lace shawl in two colors: one 100 g skein of 4-ply sock yarn plus a leftover bit of a second color for the contrasting stripe, for a shawl with a 150 cm wingspan. But the shawl can be enlarged or made smaller as desired.
You should be able to knit and purl, knit 2 together, work slip-over decreases and double slip-over decreases. So, nothing too tricky.

The asymmetrical triangular shawl Leviathan can be knitted with trendy Bobbels as well as with any other yarn.

HAMBURG AHOI is an elongated triangle that is knitted from corner to corner – this lets you adjust the size completely individually, and you don’t have to decide until very shortly before the end. The I-cord is knitted on directly, so there aren’t too many ends to weave in, since the yarn of the second color is usually carried along. The difficulty level is hard to assess. In the first few rows you really need to
pay close attention, but thanks to the many photos, slightly more experienced beginners should be able to manage it too. From about row 10 onward, it becomes very relaxed …

POTZBLITZ is a garter-stitch triangular shawl that, similar to HAMBURG AHOI (see post above), is worked from corner to corner. Here, too, the first few rows require your full attention, but after that it gets really easy. The pattern is quite long because I took a lot of pictures for the trickier parts—whenever there’s a turn—that really illustrate the process stitch by stitch. As with all my patterns, you shouldn’t read the entire pattern right away—that will just confuse you. It’s better to work through it step by step; then everything will fall into place on its own :-)

I have one more to share, knitted from a ball of sock yarn. I’d say this shawl is definitely suitable for shawl beginners. It includes a few lace rows, but other than that, you just need to know how to knit and purl.
The shawl is also very relaxing to knit—while watching TV or even when you have guests over and don’t want to be constantly counting stitches.

The triangular shawl SOLVEIG is inspired by the colors and textures of the lichens and mosses on the fjells in Norway. A wonderful shawl for the transition into spring! The Coffee Toffee shawl is perfect for all seasons. In winter it keeps your neck warm, and on cooler summer evenings you can use it to warm your back and shoulders. Here, wool with hemp was turned into a soft natural yarn.
