I’ve heard that the current trend among people with cold feet is toward house shoes / house socks with a cable pattern. Either as decorative trim along the edge or incorporated into the sock itself. You can find pattern ideas for these here in this thread.

Slippers with Cables, Sizes 35–42

Here you’ll find a knitting pattern for slippers with knitted-in cables and pom-poms in sizes 35–42.

You’ll need a set of double-pointed needles and a circular knitting needle in 4.0 and 5.0 mm. You’ll also need yarn in weight 3.0 to 4.0, 200/250 g in total. Please note that this yarn is used double-stranded!
