The Shire - that is the home of the Hobbits from Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings".

I was inspired to create this beautiful knitted shawl by the description of the beautiful landscape with its gentle hills.

Auenland is a knitted neckerchief in a semicircular shape. A delicate floral pattern alternates with garter-stitch rows. The shawl gets its shape from evenly spaced increases.

Small beaded tassels can be attached to the tips of the shawl, but since this is not essential and everyone can decide according to their own taste, I have not gone into it further in the pattern.

Materials needed:

• 2- to 4-ply yarn (lace or sock yarn weight), possibly thicker as well, approx. 600-800 meters
• Circular knitting needle size 3 - 4
• Sewing needle for weaving in the ends
• Stitch markers

The crocheted triangular shawl reminds me of the Mediterranean Sea and its waves in summer.

If you’d like to crochet yourself a little bit of summer too, you’ll need approx. 350 g of microfiber yarn (260 m yardage per 100 g), and you should know how to work chain stitches, slip stitches, double crochet, treble crochet, and puff stitches.

The pattern includes an illustrated description that lets you crochet the shawl even as a beginner, as well as a short version without photos for printing.

Conversion chart for yarn amounts for alternative yarns for knitting and crochet

This is an Excel spreadsheet for converting a yarn amount from the "original yarn" to an "alternative yarn" of your choice.


Example:
The original yarn specified in your pattern has a yardage of 85 m per 50 g. According to the instructions there, you need 600 g of this "original yarn" for your size. But you would like to make your piece in a different yarn (= alternative yarn). This yarn you have chosen has a yardage of 70 m per 50 g ball. You enter this information in the Excel spreadsheet and immediately receive the required amount of your desired yarn in both balls and grams.

Technical note:
My Excel spreadsheets contain calculation formulas and therefore require a so-called spreadsheet program. Calculations would not work in PDF format. So to open Excel spreadsheets, a spreadsheet program such as Excel, LibreOffice (available free of charge http://de.libreoffice.org/) or OpenOffice (available free of charge http://www.openoffice.org/de/) must be installed on the respective device. Then the file can be opened with a double-click.
Sometimes the white input fields in Excel spreadsheets cannot be changed; the message "Protected View" appears at the top of the screen — in that case, please click "Enable Editing".

All-Season Beanie Knitted from Sock Yarn

For this feather-light all-season beanie, which is made with knitting needles in various sizes (the brim with size 3.5 needles, the main section with size 6.0 needles, the decreases with 4.5 and 4.0) and, for the decoration, with a crochet hook
size 3.0 - 4.0, 70 g of 6-ply sock yarn is enough, though one skein usually has 150 g. So from the leftover yarn you can easily knit a small loop scarf or even 1 pair of socks up to shoe size 36/37
:-) With colorful sock yarn, the color gradient—like in these pictures—appears automatically.

Sock-Knitting Course for 4-Ply Yarn Using Baby/Newborn Socks

This is an illustrated sock-knitting course using baby socks size 15, knitted from 4-ply sock yarn, and consists of a total of 4 PDF files: the main pattern, handwritten sketches, a baby sock table for sizes 15 - 20, and a sock table for sizes 22 - 47. It also includes a baby mitten pattern in a short version, since parts of the baby sock pattern can be used for it.

Don't be alarmed! It is harder to describe the process than to knit the socks.

Required materials:
approx. 15 g 4-ply sock yarn for the baby socks, approx. 10 g 4-ply sock yarn for the baby mittens,
for adult socks up to size 44: 100 g sock yarn; if larger, then 150 g is required.
Set of double-pointed needles 2.5, tape measure, scissors, yarn needle.

The baby socks can also be embroidered, for example, and used in various ways—not just as baby socks—e.g. as “packaging” for gifts of money or sweets, as an Advent calendar, as a keychain (proportionally smaller looks prettier), and more.

Crochet Hat for Everyone - very easy

A wonderfully easy-to-crochet hat for different styles, meaning ONE hat model wearable in all the pictured variations, for both men and women. Also easy to make for children or as a
simple hat for babies (though thinner yarn is recommended). And the best part: no gauge (it doesn’t come down to the exact centimeter), no increases or decreases, possible in all sizes with any yarn you like. The PDF pattern is illustrated.

You need these crochet skills:
chain stitches, single crochet. Everything else and slip stitches are explained.
