In the Christmas spirit? (not an advertising thread)

are you in the Christmas spirit, or do you still need a few cookies, mulled wine, etc.?

The whole house smells like cookies, there’s a hint of incense in the air, and it’s freezing outside...

Despite visiting the Christmas market today, I just can’t seem to get into the spirit.
But there are reasons for that.
I’m not going to force it, though. If it’s not there, it’s not there. Things might look completely different next year. ;-)

I’m a bit torn inside when it comes to Christmas spirit.

On the one hand, I love Advent, the anticipation of Christmas, and Christmas itself. This year, however, two family members are dying, and none of us knows when it will happen or whether they will still be here for Christmas.

That really puts a damper on what would otherwise be a festive mood. But I’m trying not to brood all the time and to enjoy the time as much as possible anyway…

I can totally understand that. We're also missing someone at Christmas this year, and that's why the right mood just doesn't really come. Although I do think it's very nice when everything is beautifully decorated at Christmas—this year I'd rather just enjoy it at other people's homes. :-)

I’m putting up decorations at home too, but it’s just not fun this year...

I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet either.
Last week my son had surgery on both ears, there are appointments with tradespeople that have to happen before Christmas, and so on and so forth.... But next week I want to start baking (if I start too early, there won’t be anything left by Christmas) and do a little Christmas decorating too… and by Christmas Eve at the latest—which I’ll be spending with my loved ones—I’ll be in the Christmas spirit too.

No, not really—even though I’m crocheting angels and making cards, something’s still missing.

Best wishes for your son's recovery, even though I don't know him personally. I hope that everything will be okay again for you all by Christmas.

@Anton2412: thank you very much. Unfortunately, we’ll only know whether the surgery was successful in 6–9 months.

Since I’m currently constantly on business trips, I haven’t really gotten into the Christmas spirit yet, despite visiting a few Christmas markets. I’d rather be at home with my family and quietly see out the end of the year...
