Socks made from 6-ply sock yarn are a little thicker – and therefore warmer – and, above all, quicker to
knit than socks made from 4-ply yarn. They are especially suitable as house socks and bed socks, hut slippers, or for hiking in mountain boots. Men love socks like these in work shoes.

This is basically a sock-knitting course, shown in detail with photos using simple children’s socks in size 32/33. All other sizes can be knitted according to the corresponding table information for 6-ply sock yarn.

Don’t be alarmed! It is harder to describe the process than it is to knit the socks.

We need 1 ball = 150 g (yardage approx. 420 m to 450 m) up to shoe size 44; 200 g – 250 g from size 45
of a 6-ply sock yarn; the especially soft Christmas yarn color 02 “Mally Socks – Lungauer Sockenwolle” by Ferner Wolle was used here, 75% merino, 25% polyamide; gauge approx. 22 sts x 31 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm; set of double-pointed needles size 3.5; row counter is helpful; measuring tape, scissors, yarn needle for weaving in ends.

The finished socks may, of course, be given away or sold in any quantity. The usual copyright applies to the patterns.

New in December

A colorful shawl with a leaf border. It’s sure to chase away the winter blues. This pattern is also great for using up leftover yarn. The shawl is knitted sideways and takes shape through increases and decreases. The pattern includes a chart for the leaf border and written row-by-row instructions. Materials:

• 150 gr. sock yarn
• 3 mm knitting needles
• 1 stitch marker
• 1 kitchen scale
• 1 needle to weave in ends
• 1 pair of scissors

Dimensions: 1.96 meters x 0.21 meters (at the widest point)Skills required

• Cast on stitches

Brand new: the pattern for this wonderful knitted hat!

The hat is knitted flat and in rows, so you don’t need a set of double-pointed needles or have to calculate head circumference.
That makes the hat easy to knit for every head, whether big or small.

The width of the hat is approx. 28–30 cm, depending on the yarn.

Brand new in December is the pattern for my hat in 8 sizes. Wouldn’t it be great if the same hat were under the tree for dad and son/daughter?

It knits up quickly with these yarns from Schachenmayr
Schachenmayr Juvel yardage 50 g / 106 mSchachenmayr Extra Merino yardage 50 g /130 mPatons Diploma Gold yardage 50 g / 120 mSchachenmayr Soft Wool yardage 50 g / 110 m   and a set of double-pointed needles in sizes 3.5 and 4.

Of course, yarns with similar yardage will also work. For the smaller hats you need 50 g of yarn; for size 7-8, approx. 80 g of yarn is needed.

For once, my new little Christmas tree is neither an Advent calendar nor gift wrapping: it’s just there to decorate your home—and it does that exceptionally well.


 
The little tree is made of photo cardstock and measures about 16 x 15 cm. It’s not hard to make, and the crafting itself goes by quickly—it’s just that the glitter liner takes a few hours to dry.

Anny  is a magical cowl with a zigzag pattern.
The pattern is very easy to crochet. It spans two rows and is therefore quick to memorize.

With
* 250-300g of yarn for hook size 4-6 and
* a 6mm crochet hook
the cowl is quick to crochet. For both cowls, I used cuddly yarn,
so the cowl is not only lovely to look at, but also cuddly soft.

The shawl is worked with thick wool using 6 mm knitting needles. It’s just the thing for the cold season.
Although the shawl looks very intricate, it’s actually quite easy to knit. You can easily adjust the size to your liking by adding or omitting a pattern repeat.

Here I tried something completely new, and it worked: I think my three-dimensional Christmas door wreath is absolutely wonderful, and making it was so much fun that more wreaths for all kinds of occasions will surely follow.


 
But for now there’s only this one, and anyone who quickly needs something for their door will be well served with it – the wreath is super easy to make, and there are lots of different tasks involved to keep things interesting. The wreath is approx. 30 x 30 cm and is also well suited for beginners.

Till Eulenspiegel was a prankster who, according to legend, was born around 1300. His funny stories still bring a smile to people’s faces today. Since the cable pattern is slightly reminiscent of owls, the hat was named after him during the test knit.

And just like its namesake Till, the hat is very versatile. The colorful version, knitted from Wollmeise scraps, reminds me a bit of a jester, while the gray version has a classic, elegant look. I have three new snowflakes in the store—they’re really big (approx. 30 cm in diameter), cut from photo cardstock, and can be used in various ways for decoration—as window decorations, or, hung on nylon thread, as room decorations, or even as decorative table mats.


 
The snowflakes are very easy to make, but you absolutely must know how to cut with a craft knife—and actually enjoy doing it :-).

It was made with a 4-strand yarn cake with 750 m of yardage, though I didn’t use the whole cake.

With the specified length, it wraps wonderfully around your neck twice. 

The pattern is a nice change of pace for advanced crocheters; for beginners with a little experience, it’s a wonderful way to practice different types of stitches.
