This year is a little different for us, since unfortunately someone is missing.
But generally speaking, the best thing about Christmas for me is having time for myself and my family, that all the hustle and bustle of the run-up to Christmas suddenly comes to an end, and peace and quiet sets in.
For example, I love taking Flocke for a walk late on Christmas Eve. It’s somehow especially quiet then, and I feel that silence very intensely.
What I love most about Christmas is the peace, quiet, and romance of all the candles and lights.
My favorite thing to do is take a walk with my family through our neighborhood (which is mostly single-family homes) and sneak a peek into people’s windows.
It’s so nice to see families looking so happy.
It’s kind of hard to pick just one… there are so many things that make me happy!
The calm, contented mood everyone’s in, finally no stress…
The youngest one’s eyes lighting up when he helps decorate the Christmas tree…
The older kids’ enthusiasm for making their siblings happy, even despite their disagreements…
Watching my uncle as he sits there, happy to be with family again…
Sharing a meal together, with lots of laughter and guessing what might be inside the presents…
Sitting in the living room, the Christmas tree shining brightly, looking at the chaos and feeling that warm sense of joy just because we’re all together…
This year? Definitely that there will be six of us :)
In general, I love cozy get-togethers with my parents (the whole lot of them — *laughs* — I’m a child of divorce and both parents are remarried) (yes, it works with all 4 together *happy*), my dear husband, the children, the beautiful tree, delicious food, and the children’s shining eyes...
Ahh... and afterwards, sitting on the sofa with my dear husband and letting everything wind down cozily...
I’m due on the 27th... but because of gestational diabetes, the little one is already 2 weeks ahead, so I’m pretty sure it’ll be earlier...
Christmas Eve would somehow be nice too :)
- Time with family
- Three days of amazing food without feeling guilty
- Finally giving as gifts the things I made myself
- Christmas-lit streets
- Christmas music (“Last Christmas” and the like ;))
- The relaxed atmosphere
- The general excitement everyone feels
- Looking forward to an eventful 2017
- Hopefully some snow
- ...
Actually, everything. The Christmas season is simply wonderful! :)
I’m looking forward to my husband and I having a week off together to spend time with the kids.
A week without the stress of school or work, and plenty of time for skiing, ice skating, or just long walks with the dog.
Sleeping in late and having a leisurely breakfast together. And let’s not forget playing with the new “toys.” This year, it’ll probably be more about making music, since there are musical instruments for my little songbird.
