Snakes are the perfect little leftover-yarn eaters! My Rüdiger may be mainly red, but he’s sure to look fantastic in lots and lots of bright colors! And for his sidekick Chuck, the Karatte (a Karatte is a rat that knows karate ;-)), you’ll need less than half a skein in gray and white.

Rüdiger can be knitted with short rows – that’s a little more difficult, but it creates great curves. You can also leave out the short rows, though. At the color changes, the stripes are broken up with super-simple slipped stitches to mimic the texture of snakeskin.
Chuck isn’t quite as easy, but you can do it!

Leftover yarn? What should I do with it?..
If you really have a lot of leftovers, a colorful giraffe is the perfect project... and of course, there’s nothing better for the little ones to cuddle and carry around. Depending on the yarn you use, Jonathan will turn out bigger or smaller.
I used acrylic yarn and a 2.5 mm hook, and he turned out to
be about 65 cm tall. Skills required: chain stitch, single crochet, decreases and increases, color changes, spiral rounds, and joined rounds.
