For me, it’s usually in the evening, when my little one is in bed and I finally get a chance to unwind. I also do a lot of crafting in the mornings when my little one is at preschool. But then there’s also housework to do—unfortunately, that doesn’t take care of itself :-D That’s why I actually prefer the evening, since then I don’t have to feel guilty that I could be vacuuming or cleaning the bathroom instead :-D
On the weekend, preferably on Sunday. That’s because most of the household chores are already taken care of by Saturday, I can’t go shopping anyway, and the rest of my family has all gone off with their electronic gadgets.
Then I have about 1–2 hours that are all mine, before I start cooking. But on Sundays, my husband often cooks, which makes it even more relaxing.
During the week, I can only do it in the evening, once homework and studying are done. Often I’m so tired by then that I can only manage very simple things. Or I experiment with leftover yarn. That always works out well, because I’d rather test things out and rip them back out than spend hours doing the same stitch pattern.
By the way, I’m always happy when I’m crafting. No matter when I do it. And no matter what I’m doing. Just creating something with my hands. Even if it doesn’t turn out right, it’s simply about the act of doing itself.
I love crocheting after work while watching TV. It really helps me unwind after a stressful day. I’m only “allowed” to sew when my husband isn’t home or is in another room. The noise from the sewing machine bothers him. But when I get home from work at 9:30 p.m., I want to be with him and wouldn’t want to switch rooms.
On the S-Bahn on my way to work, or in waiting rooms, at the hair salon, or similar places, I like to crochet simple little projects. Sometimes that even leads to interesting conversations with people.
I almost exclusively craft in the evening while watching TV. During the day, I diligently prepare plenty of work for that time so there’s no downtime :-).
And that’s exactly what I do whenever time allows.
In the evenings while watching TV, I usually have yarn and a needle in my hands. I have to be really tired or have bad back pain to stop myself from crocheting or, sometimes, knitting.
Sewing, of course, is only possible when I have a little more time and can slip away to my study for a while in peace.
Or I’ll set up my sewing machines on the dining table if I really want or need to sew something.
And that’s only possible on weekdays during the day, when either just my little one is buzzing around me or she’s playing with my older daughter or my middle child.
So, now I’m picking up my current project again, trying it on the little one, and then continuing to crochet it until it’s finished...
After all, it should be appearing here soon as a pattern ;)
For me, the best time to crochet or knit is in the evening.
That’s when I curl up on my sofa, turn on the TV, and let the show wash over me while I craft.
It’s a wonderful way for me to unwind. :-)
Actually... almost always. In the morning, at noon, in the evening... of course, only when I’m not at work.
But to avoid feeling guilty, I like it best when the apartment is clean—then I don’t keep thinking, “I still have to...” ;)
When do I most like doing needlework? - Ideally all the time, but unfortunately that’s not possible...
Family, work, and household chores take priority... with the result that I mainly crochet in the evenings in front of the TV. That’s when I can relax and unwind wonderfully. Depending on my mood or how tired I am, I either try something new or keep working on something simple.
So when?
Anytime and anywhere—but preferably in the morning, when the house is a little quieter. When the older kids are at school or work, the little one is at kindergarten, and my uncle is out for a walk... that’s when there’s truly heavenly peace, and instead of cleaning, I can crochet in peace :-) I can also clean when the house is full (well, lately the house has been so full that I haven’t managed either).
My neighbors are used to seeing me with my needlework on the patio or in the garden; people in my family doctor’s waiting room already know me that way, and the secretary at the speech therapy office doesn’t even look up anymore.
I don’t get much done in the evenings anymore because I have to go to bed with my youngest—I’m his cuddle pillow. Hopefully this phase will pass, and then I can retreat to my study and get creative.
As often as possible, at all sorts of times—as long as I have time for it and I’m not too tired. And when there’s something I really don’t like doing (like doing my taxes and similar things), that’s when I end up making the most little knitted or crocheted gifts. A friend noticed that recently, and she’s absolutely right—grin.
@Traudelina
*laughs* Yeah, I know exactly what you mean!! :-D .... It’s unbelievable how much “crocheting” I get done when I put off “housework” ;-)
During the week, I only have the evenings to myself (unless I have to stay late at the office or we go out for a cozy meal with coworkers).
But then I usually have the weekends all to myself! That’s when I get most of my projects done.
@Pe-Ka
For me, it’s exactly the opposite—I usually put it off for a long time if I have to “figure out” something for a new project first. All that constant trial and error—trying something, unraveling it again, and trying again—always leaves me feeling a little unsatisfied at some point. I always get the feeling that I’m not really making any progress.
But ONCE I finally figure it out, it’s fun again! :-D
I love crocheting on the patio in the summer when I’m alone and have some peace and quiet. As soon as fall starts and I can’t go outside anymore, I crochet less and have to force myself to pick up the hook. I’ve noticed that I crochet and sew pieces together more in the summer than in the other months.
A few stitches are always possible. A little housework, work a few stitches. At the playground with my grandson, maybe trying out a pattern repeat in the morning before work after all...... Spring, summer, fall, or winter—it makes no difference to me. The yarn adapts to the temperature.
In the evening, curled up in my cozy corner on the sofa, to wrap up the day.
Actually, always—anywhere, anytime.
