Crochet Slump

Hi everyone,
I’ve been crocheting for years, and it’s a great way for me to unwind.
For me, it was practically part of my daily routine, since I suffer from panic attacks and it really was like yoga for the brain. My hands work, my mind switches off. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been working for weeks now. Crocheting doesn’t relax me anymore, and I miss my hobby. Not even patterns where you don’t have to think at all appeal to me.
Total boredom has set in.
Do you know phases like this, when you just have no inspiration for your favorite hobby?
Best, Anja

Hi Anja,

Yeah, I know that feeling too. Not crocheting at all, and not designing anything either. Then I don’t do anything like that for a few days or 1–2 weeks, and suddenly the urge hits me again and everything goes smoothly. Just do something else during this phase of disinterest. Maybe try a different craft? Sewing, knitting, felting, working with Fimo... or take a walk in the woods now that fall is here?
Best wishes, Katja

Yes, I know that feeling. I used to stress myself out and put pressure on myself about it, too.
But these days I take it more in stride.
When I’m feeling unmotivated or out of ideas, I just wait a few days and do something else in the meantime—like reading, taking photos, or whatever else comes to mind.
That really helps me clear my head and get a fresh perspective.
And then the urge to knit or crochet—and the ideas—just come on their own.
Maybe that’ll help you a little, too?

Best regards, Michaela

I know that feeling too. I’ve also found that it’s often best to just let the hobby rest for a while. The desire usually comes back on its own eventually. Anything you have to force yourself to do isn’t enjoyable. And a hobby should do one thing above all else… namely, be fun.

Hallo Anja,

Ich wünsche Dir jedenfalls viel Freude und Erfolg - egal was Du machst!

LG Stefanie

Dear Anja,

I can only agree with Katja. Put the crochet hook away and just don’t think about it. It’ll come back all on its own—and then with a force that’ll blow you away.

I felt that way this summer when I’d finished a very long project and had a big one ahead of me. I just didn’t want to start it and kept putting it off. And believe me, that feeling of boredom crept up on me, too.
Then I found the knitted vest I’d started for my dad over a year ago. Well, it’s still not finished, but after two weeks of knitting, my crochet mojo was back in full force.

Just don’t lose heart—it’ll all come back!

Best regards,
Dagmar

Hi Anja,
I used to knit a lot years ago, but then I suddenly lost interest. It got so far that I gave away all my remaining yarn and all my knitting needles.
In the meantime, I have needles and yarn in my stash again.
But I don’t knit as much anymore because I do patchwork now and accordingly have lots of fabrics, sewing thread, books, templates, and.......

So your current lack of interest isn’t a bad thing; maybe something else will come along that you enjoy. Have a lovely holiday. Best wishes, Rose
