Knitting an elastic cast-on

What is an elastic cast-on in knitting?

As the name suggests, the elastic cast-on is elastic.😊
It gives a little.
I use this technique for knitting socks.

There are actually several different types of elastic cast-ons. You have to try them out to find the right one for your project.

And since there are different types, the results can vary quite a bit. I recently had the task of knitting socks for my brother, who has very thick legs and can’t fit into store-bought socks. So he needed socks with an elastic, stretchy cuff. We’d discussed this here on the forum .

To solve this, I tried every method I could find, and ended up going back to the one I used as a child: a tight cast-on using two size 2 needles. Then I continued knitting the cuff with a size 2.5 needle.

I experimented with different sock cast-ons and ended up using the Norwegian method.
I also pick up the stitches using two needles and knit the cuff with a needle half a size larger than the rest of the sock.🌸
